How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Shabbir Ahmad: Hide peace to everyone. My name is Shabi Rima. I'm an undergraduate student pursuing law at Lahore University of Management Sciences. Recently, I was selected for the FX B climate advocate summer 2024. I belong to K Abdullah afar flung in an underprivileged district located on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The income of people of kab blood mostly depends upon cultivation and rearing cattles. Unfortunately, drought has affected this area badly in the last 10 years, green lands, the um trees gardens have been turning into barren land, even drinking water is inaccessible here. All these factors and helpless condition have forced the people to migrate to a new land or find a new source of income for themselves. There are many factors responsible for this condition. Among those some are major such as the less water waterfall, water rainfall, anley, the excess plantation of the tiles and the vestige of fresh water reservoirs. After seeing after having a keen observation of this situation, I along with my friend decided to play a positive role and help the people in my community. We asked the local government representative to construct new and new dams to store water that will help increase the ground water level bed. Also, we ask them to have a checkup on the plantation of new tube wells in offline. Uh We organized offline and online through social media campaigns and motivated the local farmers to make use of the drip irrigation system. Except uh apart apart from the drip irrigation system, we asked them and motivated them to plant those trees which use less water such as the olive water, olive trees, a single drop saved today will benefit the generation to come. We also asked the locals and motivated them to use water carefully and um for the household usages, we urged them, we urged them to use the courage of water uh um known as the natural spring system in Pakistan that will uh both benefit uh increase water level in Kabul. The inspiration I uh got for my initiatives against the climate change and the adverse effect is that there was a uh a fruit garden near to my home. Uh In childhood, we used to play in that garden. We used to enjoy the hanging swings and eat apple from that garden a few years ago, that garden dried up, the trees were cut down and sold in the marketplace. Uh That incident had a profound impact on me and uh motivated me to know the reason behind this drought and play a positive role in my society. I did, I did research and come up uh with many uh reasons and solutions. And uh I took initiatives. I I'm hopeful um that the knowledge I am gaining at the FX B uh summer cohort uh along with my research on climate and effects at the solution to mitigate that those adverse effects. I'm hopeful that all these initiatives will be fruitful for the people of my community and it will ease their tough condition. Thank you.
