How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?

Hi there. I'm Dave Finnegan. I've been a teacher for 30 years. I've been to over 2000 elementary schools in 46 states with a program that lasted all day and ended up with family night where the parents came in. Everybody got excited. I'm now doing a program that I call green action years where we go from school to school, we get the kids excited about what they can do to save energy, save water, save money and create a clean green future for everyone. And then they get to put a post it note up on a chart in uh in their classroom every time their family takes a green action. So the idea is to have a list of green actions that kids can take in order to go green. I live in Florida. I'm 83 years old, but I'm not gonna quit until every school in North America has a Green Engineers program. Now, in order to make this work, uh I had to create a book. So I got the help of over 60 undergraduate uh students and sustainability from the University of Central Florida. We put together the Green Actioner family action guide. And we give this book for free to every family in the school so that they can all have the fun of playing the game. And the game is out in the hallway where they have the chart on the wall. And if they achieve a certain level, they can get a rank just like sky. In fact, we call this two things. We call it drawdown for families and we call it scouting for the 21st century. But you can become a green actioner with only one action. Then with five, you're a sprout 10, you're a sapling 20. You're a mighty oak 50. You're a majestic redwood and with 80 or more you become a giant sequoia. Thanks a lot. I'm Dave Finnegan.
