Speaker: Diane Eastman, Auburn, California, USA
How (and why) are you taking action on climate change solutions in, for, and with your community?
Diane Eastman: Hi, I'm Diana Eastman. I'm here in Auburn, California. And my contribution, my civic contribution to climate change is to develop a material that actually reflects both solar heat and thermal heat for windows. So you can easily place it in next to a window and it reflects solar heat in the summertime, 50% which is a lot. And then in the winter, it also reflects the heat uh back into the room to make your home or office more comfortable. So I'm gonna turn the camera around because I've done the research and I'm just in the process of trying to get it to market. Um, and since it's so unique, um, it's been very difficult, but I'll show it to you now.
Diane Eastman: So this is what it looks like in a window and I've cut it in strips. So that's the little, um, dark spaces in the middle. I'm gonna try to do this. So what it looks like is let's see if we can do this. So this is what it looks like. It's just white on one side and it's got holes in it, which is the reason you can see through it and it but just complicated, very high tech material um that, that does all the work.
Who or what inspires/inspired you to care about climate change and climate solutions?
Diane Eastman: Hello, my name is Diane Eastman and I'm here in Auburn, California, which is outside of Sacramento. And my contribution to climate change is to cut carbon emissions from buildings and make people more comfortable of any uh strata because this can be applied to any window. So what it is, it's a multi layered product that hangs in a window. Uh but it's unique because it's very transparent. And so during the summer, it reflects about 50% or more than 50% of the solar energy from the sun. And in the winter, it reflects energy back in the heat that you're trying to keep in the home or office. And that's where you get your efficiency and your comfort.
