Speaker: Gayatri Iyer

Why should one sign up for Pranayama and Meditation Sadhana?

Gayatri Iyer: As the name Sadhana suggests that it is not a one day, two day, three day activity or workshop that we attend and forget. The aim of these classes is to help a person build a deep personal practice, consisting of breathing and meditation techniques. And these techniques and practices will really help a person move towards their goals of emotional, physical and mental wellness.

What are the benefits of Pranayama?

Gayatri Iyer: As a practitioner of Pranayama for the past seven years, I cannot stress enough about the benefits of Pranayama. Personally, I have experienced a very good quality of sleep, more energy and zest for life to go and do the things that I have to do. And also it's improved, my digestion, improved my appetite. I also enjoy good healthy food and in between, I need that rest, that pause, not only for my body, but also for my mind so that there's a, there's more clarity, there's reduced anxiety and my mind is quiet so that I can reflect on myself, my actions and then get on with my life.

What are the benefits of meditation?

Gayatri Iyer: Meditation for me is not sitting in a fancy pose in a fancy place for us together. But it's just to step back and allowing my body and mind to be quiet and still. And perhaps in that quietness and stillness, I may get some clarity about myself, about the world around me, about my relationships, about my actions, which in turn really helps me reduce my anxieties and cope with the stresses and challenges of life.

What inspired you to do Pranayama regularly? Share some part of your story here

Gayatri Iyer: Seven years back when I started the Pranayama journey, I wanted some clarity and direction in life because it was a very challenging period for me where I had to quit my corporate job. My startup hadn't taken off the way I had wanted it to and I did look for some external help, like listening to motivational speakers, codes, reading, but nothing was clicking inside. And then I realized perhaps I may have to work with myself to understand why am I the way I am? Why am I in this place? Why am I not able to achieve my dreams? What are the blocks and lo and behold Pranayama helped me step back and get more clarity and insights about myself about the world. And from there, I could take a few steps and move in some direction. I cannot say that I have achieved all my dreams and desires through Pranayama yet, but I'm very confident that Pranayama is the one that will show me the way throughout.
