What influenced you to join the Pivot Tech program?
Jenetta Merriwether : Hello, my name is Janetta Merryweather and I'm a native of Nashville, Tennessee. What influenced me to join the pivot tech school is most recently, I saw a young woman post in the Nashville black people making moves page um about her journey and that she was getting ready to graduate. I thought about her post and I said, Janetta just reach out to her. I reached out to her through messenger asking of her experience about the school and the and her program that she went through and she replied, we ended up having a great conversation and I will say that she is the sole reason why I decided to reach out to the school to start my process of applying. Also, I have seen many posts about the pivot tech school um for a little while now, um Every post that I've seen, I've read, I've looked on their website several times, but I honestly had just become afraid to reach out to see how this school could benefit me and my life and helping to find something new and choose an actual career software development is something that I also had been looking into for a while now and in the back of my mind, I knew that it's something that I'm more than capable of doing. But again, fear just got in the way at this point in my life, I decided to stop letting fear get in my way and I told myself to just do it. So now that I am here, I am excited to join the software program and get my foot in the door of this great field that I know will have endless opportunities. I'm excited to meet all of the instructors in the pivot tech school, make those connections, um meet new classmates um and people who have the same or similar interests as me. I know that the pivot tech school has had a great success rate and I know that this program is genuinely going to help me move forward in life. I'm excited about this. I had to push my fear to the side. Also talking with Elizabeth. She has been a great supporter through email and through text and over the phone um to help me to know that I can be great at this, discussing my background with her and her encouragement. I know that the pivot tech school is the right place for me.
Prior to joining Pivot, what was your technical background?
Jenetta Merriwether : I do not have any background in tech other than normal use of computers and Microsoft programming through jobs that I have had in the past.
How has this opportunity in tech changed your professional career?
Jenetta Merriwether : How has this opportunity in tech changed my professional career in comparison to work that I have done? Tech is the field that I actually want to make a career out of since I'm new to the program. This has not changed my professional career just yet, but it is going to very soon. I'm excited to see the opportunities that tech will bring to me in my life. I am excited for myself to see my potential grow and get something that I know that I can be great at tech is the future. And I know that there will be more than enough endless opportunities and various avenues of things to learn in the tech industry.
What about the Pivot program stood out the most?
Jenetta Merriwether : What about the pivot program stood out the most truthfully what stood out the most to me was the fact that the program is not held every day. It was exciting to learn that the program would only hold classes a few days a week. Although if it was every day, I know that I could still handle it. But those few days a week of the week will give the students time, whether you're new to the program or not to take everything in and also have a breather in between classes to be able to go over your material, reach out to your peers, um, and, or your instructor for additional help and questions if you need it.
Can you share some advice to someone who is thinking about joining this program?
Jenetta Merriwether : The advice that I would give to anyone thinking about joining the program is to simply just do it. If you pray, pray about it, if you like to meditate before making decisions, meditate, anything that it takes for you to get over that hump or any doubts that are in your mind. I know I've had my fair share of mine and I will be honest that I am still a little nervous, but however, the optimism that I have outweighs anything else that I may be feeling about joining this program. If you are looking to pivot yourself into something new, if you are looking for a new challenge, if you are looking to just excel as something that you never dreamed of like myself, I never dreamed of getting into something like this. Then that is your answer to just trust yourself and go do it.
