Speaker: Grant N., Residential Operation Intern, 121 Disposal Co.
Why did you choose OptimoRoute for your business?
Grant N.: My name is Grant Norton. I work for 121 Disposal Company as an Operations Intern for residential waste services. We're located in Auburn, Alabama and I was not actually at the company when we chose OptimoRoute, but I'll kind of give you the back story. We were currently or still currently using AMCS platform as our customer database and for the routing for our roll off and commercial operations. But we quickly figured out that the software we were using could not handle the about 500-600 customer pickups we had a day. At least, smoothly, that is, it didn't have a really good app for what we needed it for. So, they looked into OptimoRoute, got with a rep and it kind of took off from there. Now, I know we have three counties embedded into OptimoRoute and that consists of almost 1000 pickups per day, spanning it across about nine drivers. So, that is kind of how we use OptimoRoute on a daily basis is getting those routes planned for our drivers. Like I said, 9 drivers between 3 different counties, servicing a little over a 1 000 stops per day.
How did you manage route planning before OptimoRoute?
Grant N.: Prior to OptimoRoute, we actually did not have a routing software. This was our first ever routing software for our residential routing and pickups every day. I would say the biggest benefit is really the ease of use. You could sit somebody down in 30 minutes, they could figure out how to upload a route and plan one pretty quickly. This auto optimization has been a game changer. It's cut down on our fuel costs and it's gotten our customers picked up more quick. And also, we've kind of worked with the rep and some of the engineers to kind of manipulate the software in a way with the rejection status. That has also been a huge help on reporting as well. We can see, not only that the stop was rejected, but also why, they kind of created a drop down list for us. That makes it easier on the driver as well. So, he's not having to type out and he can get to his next stop quick, a lot more quickly. So, that would be I would say the biggest benefit would be the auto optimization, the ease of use, as well as the how well you guys adapt to our needs.
How has OptimoRoute helped your business?
Grant N.: I would say the, the biggest way that OptimoRoute has helped our business is on the customer satisfaction aspect of everything. As I stated before, our drivers are, are very easily able to, to specify why they rejected a stop or if they completed a stop. So if a customer calls in and say, hey, my trash was not picked up today, can you tell me why? I can easily go in there, type in their name and within a few seconds, give them an answer relatively accurately, 100% accurately, if our drivers are doing the right thing. Also, time savings thing. Obviously you pay guys by the hour, so if you can cut down those hours, you increase your margins, and obviously increase your cash flow. So I would say time savings, getting those guys back quicker, optimizing the routes, getting them back, like I said, quicker to the to the yard, less miles, all around. It's just been great. It's helped us cut down on costs tremendously. And again, the customer satisfaction is, is kind of the basis of what our company, likes to do and that's kind of our morals. So taking care of our customers is huge, huge help through OptimoRoute.
How easy is OptimoRoute to use?
Grant N.: I would say OptimoRoute is probably the easiest software that I have ever been introduced to. I've been using it now for about two years, almost two years. And I would say within the first maybe month of kind of learning ins and outs using it every day, I had a pretty firm grasp of it. Obviously, there's new things added and features that, that we kind of become more introduced to and a little bit more acquired to what we do on a daily basis. But overall, OptimoRoute has been really easy to learn. We've brought in a few new hires that we've had to teach OptimoRoute and they've grasped it just as well as I have. Overall, whatever you guys are doing is working, it's very clearly labeled. So like I said, overall, OptimoRoute is extremely easy to learn and use.
How important are speed and flexibility for your business?
Grant N.: I would say the flexibility part of our business is extremely important. We're a pretty new company and every day we're growing, adding more trucks, adding more customers to our database. We just picked up a rather large contract that'll pick up, I would say, about 2 000 stops additionally, on top of what we've been doing and that's per day, every day, five days a week. So we've been talking to our rep, his name is Matt. He has been an awesome help getting the information we need and helping us out and telling us what we need to do to make it easier on our end. And as I stated before, the flexibility and the aspect of catering towards our needs and kind of areas we saw that could use some help. They were Johnny-on-the-spot, for lack of a better term. They were very helpful in getting us the information we needed whenever we need help. He was always very quickly to answer to our our emails if we have any questions. Overall, OptimoRoute has just been a 10 out of 10 experience for everybody on our staff and we could not be more appreciative of the help you guys have provided towards us.
