Speaker: Stephen Rayment, President, OnGo Alliance

Describe the improvements that CBRS 2.0 brings to the industry and how it will impact the industry going forward.

Stephen Rayment: Hi, I'm Stephen Rayment, President of the OnGo Alliance and I wanted to share with you a bit of our excitement about something we are calling CBRS 2.0. It's probably the biggest step forward for CBRS since its initial commercial roll out in 2020. Our objectives at the Alliance have always been to improve the reliability and the scale of CBRS networks and the benefits here are huge for all types of networks - mobile, fixed, and private. CBRS 2.0 includes three big improvements and they are 1. Dramatically smaller incumbent protection zones 2. Increased resilience to losses in SAS connectivity, and, 3. a new coexistence mechanism for unlicensed GAA users. As an example to characterize the first improvement on protection zones for indoor deployments under about two stories, the percentage of population that will not see service disruptions is going to surge from about 49% to 91%. You no longer have to worry about naval radar. If you can't smell sea water, you will likely never be impacted. Together these three changes mark a huge leap forward for CBRS with CBRS 2.0 networks can be deployed with more confidence facilitating business critical services using shared spectrum at an even greater scale. Whether it's mobile networks, fixed networks or the wide range of private 4G and 5 G networks, the value of CBRS-based solutions has just increased significantly. Check us out at ongoalliance.org.
