What this program has done for me personally is that it has improved my communication skills, so I have started to learn and refine my listening and expressive communication skills, but more importantly, I will say that it has inspired me to continue to learn about coaching.

What was going on in your life and career that made you want to join NLCA?

The point in my career that I was at when I enrolled in nurse Life Coach Academy was 30 years in healthcare and about 15 of that as a nurse, while also uh currently being enrolled as a doctor of behavioral health student, learning about integrated care, the interrelated relationship between mental health, physical health, and the underlying root cause of much of that is behavior, not to downplay other factors. Um, so, I have realized as I have progressed through my degree program that while I appreciate I will be prepared to lead integrated care teams, I also wanted to be involved at the individual level. And so since I don't at this point in my life, want to go back to school for psychology or psychiatry, one way that I'm able to use my training, education, and licensure as a nurse is to do nurse coaching. Um, while I absolutely see benefit to health and wellness coaching, for me personally, I wanted to do a more holistic type of coaching, and so I saw this program, which is life coaching, as the opportunity to do that while Others may feel like this program worked well for them in lieu of a more traditional educational path. For me, this is actually a compliment to my doctoral studies, and it made good sense. I'm really happy that I did it.

How did you do with balancing your life and the coursework?

Uh, as far as balancing life with coursework, I didn't have any issue with this while working, uh, much of the time it was full time, plus being a doctoral student and doing this course, I actually completed much of my, uh, required client, uh, calls early, even, so that leaves a big buffer for anyone who is not able. To go full force, um, so it's kind of at your discretion. You schedule much of it, and there is little that is required as a, um, real-time requirement such as, you know, logging into live calls and things. So it's completely doable for any working professional or uh mom of kids, whatever it is you have going on, with few exceptions that I can imagine it would be completely doable.

What do you see in your future as a nurse life coach?

So what do I see in my future as a nurse life coach? I have no idea. But here's the thing, uh, I am prepared to do private practice coaching, uh, if and when I decide to go ahead and do that. Uh, the support that they offer at Nurse Life Coach Academy for setting up private practice is probably exceptional as compared to other programs from what I'm aware of, uh, but you're also prepared to use it in other ways. Uh, the biggest thing is that it is a skill. It's basically excellent communication skills that you're learning, right? Uh, and then a little bit more, but the underlying theme is working on yourself, becoming your best self, you can show up for others in whatever way you choose to use this program.

How have you grown personally?

What this program has done for me personally is that it has improved my communication skills, so I have started to learn and refine my listening and expressive communication skills, but more importantly, I will say that it has inspired me to continue to learn about coaching. And so I'm currently in the process of learning transformative and emergence coaching, and I would not have even known that existed if it were not for this program.
