Can you describe how becoming a nurse coach has impacted your career?

Bethany C Royster: So becoming a nurse coach has impacted my career in a variety of ways. Um, first of all, it's just changed the way that I even look at nursing in general. Um, it's allowed me to reimagine what I can do as a nurse and to become the type of nurse that I wanted to be when I started nursing school and to do nursing in a way that actually benefits people. Um, in my day to day as a bedside nurse, it changed the way that I was able to interact with my patients and family members. Um, I was able to actually hear them and see them and Address the needs that they had deep down and not just pass meds and look at medical diagnoses, but actually. Look at them as a whole person. Um, and it's helped me reimagine my career in general. Um, I knew for my mental health, I needed to take some time away and take a step away, and it gave, like, doing this program and becoming a nurse coach. Helped me believe that I could do something different, that I wasn't locked into a pathway that was laid out already, that I could do something new. And something different, and I could do that proudly, and that there's still options, and I can still be a nurse and still embrace this career that I used to love so much and do it in a way that I can actually like get behind. And not just be trapped, I guess, by like metrics and low staffing ratios, but actually reach the core of where people are at and where I was at with myself. Like, it changed the way that not just my nursing career, but the way that I do everything, the way that I hear everything now. And it helped me build so much resiliency to be able to, you know, before I was able to change where I was at bedside wise, it gave me the, the resiliency to still be able to show up and be present, but also to be able to be present for me. So it's truly just changed everything from start to finish for my nursing career.

What motivated you to pursue certification with Nurse Life Coach Academy?

Bethany C Royster: I was motivated to pursue certification with the Nurse Life Coach Academy, um, because it was like they were speaking the exact words that I had been thinking. Um, I think I came across a A podcast episode just by accident almost. Um, but it was like, even just the intro was like my internal monologue. Um, I had briefly looked into, um, nurse coaching, uh, I don't know, maybe a year or so ago, and, you know, it just wasn't like I was interested, but it just didn't click. And I was looking for a new option and I still wanted to help people and Help people heal and help them to become the people that they wanted to become, and I just wasn't getting that in my bedside nursing, and I was getting really burnt out. And when I came across, uh, the nurse Life Coach Academy, it was, I, I hate the cliche of like a breath of fresh air, but it really was, and it was just. So completely in line with what I believed and how I believed nursing could be and should be done. And it was just, I, I, there was just so never has been probably a clearer answer in my life to, like, you know, an answer to prayer, an answer to all the thoughts that I've been having about nursing. It just answered all of those, um, and it seemed more impossible not to do it than to do it, and I just knew that I had to. So it, it was a no-brainer.

How have you grown personally and professionally?

Bethany C Royster: Through this program and becoming a nurse life coach, um, it's helped me grow personally and professionally. Um, I'm fundamentally just different at this point. I was probably already on the, you know, self-help, self-improvement, self-development track, maybe a little bit before this, but that just doesn't even begin to cover, um, all the things that I've learned and the ways that I've grown. Um, I've become so much more confident in who I am and So much more at peace with being my authentic self, and that helped me realize that when I'm authentic, other people can be authentic with me. And it just helped me cut through so much of the fluff and the extra that was not necessary. It was not beneficial. Um, it's helped me to communicate so much more clearly with, um, my significant other, with my family members. It's made me a better mom. Um, I actually hear what my children are saying and pick up on so much more of the signals that they're giving me, and I'm able to actually talk to them in a way that they can hear me. And we're able to get through problems and any issues and miscommunications so much more clearly. Um, it's improved my confidence tremendously. Um, my confidence in being able to express myself and to take up space in the world and it's helped professionally, um, it's made me a lot more confident even as a nurse like it doesn't really change my like bedside skills exactly, but it did help me with building. Rapport with patients quickly, um, with picking up on a lot of what they didn't say, uh, in order to help them heal and be better. Um, working with clients has been just really super impactful in seeing. Who they are and realizing that we are all so much more alike in so many ways and that we can always find something in common with somebody else and we can have so much compassion, it really definitely helps that because I know with like for me with burnout, I was probably struggling a little bit with the compassion, but. Um, and that's terrible as a nurse, but this has changed that. It's allowed me to have a renewed compassion and a renewed passion for my life, but then also, you know, for, for helping other people and for being willing to meet them where they're at without judgment, um. I didn't realize that I was probably kind of judgmental before, and this has really changed that. It has just changed the way that I see other people and the way that I see myself, and I had some personal, um, tragedy in my family during this program, and I would not have been anywhere near as equipped to handle that or to handle the grief of the people around me without this program. Like, truly, I think I would. would still be so lost and would not have been anywhere near as able to facilitate healing for the people that mattered the most to me, um, without this program. So it has just, it has changed everything for me.
