Speaker: Becky Droter, School District Nurse
Becky Droter: off, you don't know what to even ask. But then as you start to think about asking questions, the answers are there.
What was going on in your life and career that made you want to join NLCA?
Becky Droter: In my life and career, I am at a point where I no longer want to spend hours and hours and hours working for someone else, and I'm getting ready to transition out of the United States to another country where my RN license will not be, um. Revered like it is here in the United States. So I was looking for something new that I could do, and I have had numerous people over the years say, you're such a good listener, you should be a coach. And that led me to look at different programs and find the NLCA program and be super excited to be part of now the Nurse Life Coach Academy. I am loving it.
What made you say yes to becoming a nurse coach?
Becky Droter: I said yes to becoming a nurse coach because I've a ton of experience in being a nurse and I work in a place where I do a lot of listening to students, to parents, to teachers, um, all of those things, and also to friends, family, strangers when they find out I'm a nurse. And I find that when You get really comfortable with listening to things that are hard or that hurt people or that have hurt them in the past. You people feel this sense of peace being around. A nurse that just has a heart for listening. And that is why I said yes to becoming a coach. I feel like this is an area that I have been gifted in and it's an area where I need a lot of practice and I have a lot to learn, but I am here and I'm committed to this process.
What has changed for you since certification?
Becky Droter: Well, I'm not quite yet certified to become a nurse coach, but there are some big changes that happen in the process of becoming a nurse life coach. And for me, that means that I have found within me that I have this huge desire and this big heart for listening to people and wanting to help them transform their lives. And it's been great to watch people. Start off really superficial until they learn to trust you, and it's amazing what people will say that they need help with, um, when they get a chance to get to know you and develop a relationship that is full of trust with their nurse life coach. So for me, so much has changed because I see people's hearts so much more clearly and that they just need to be seen and heard.
What are you most proud of?
Becky Droter: So while I believe that there is never a bad time to start, as long as you've got time to be in a training program, um, I think that I am the most proud of committing myself to starting this process 3 years before I plan on relocating to another place. I think that Um, that timing is perfect and it's everything. And I will, by the time I get ready to leave the United States to relocate to another country, I will have enough experience, enough hours of coaching, and just putting myself out there and working on building up clientele and that whole process of acquiring new clients that I will be successful, and that is a huge thing for me to make sure that that transition goes smoothly and that I'm able to start reaching out and helping people now, and that I can do even more of that in the next couple of years.
What would you say to a nurse considering joining Nurse Life Coach Academy?
Becky Droter: If you are someone who is looking at being part of Nurse Life Coach Academy, I cannot recommend this program enough. Before, like, all right as the questions are generating in your mind, because you start off, you don't know what to even ask. But then as you start to think about asking questions, the answers are there. Just the way the curriculum is built and the Flow of the program and the timings of the live sessions for coaching sessions that we have is perfect. Um, I started off not asking a ton of questions because I didn't really know what to ask. Um, I just knew I wanted something different for my life and I wanted something that had staying power, something that I could do on my terms, on my hours. Over time, and now I'm finally in a place where I feel like Shelby and Laura, they've got my back. So they've got it all laid out so perfectly. You can start off with um just practicing coaching, just figuring out how to do that, how to get on, do the calls, listen with intent. And um later on, I have absolute faith that I'm going to be part of the business coaching program and that I will learn exactly what I need to know when I need to know it for starting my business.
