Speaker: Ellen, Mental Health Clinical Intern

Please introduce yourself and tell us about your role at Northern Human Services.

Ellen: Hi, I'm Ellen and I'm a clinical intern here at Northern Human Services. I have been working here since the beginning of February 2024. And it has been such a blessing to have this place be my internship because of the amazing variety of opportunities I have. A day in a life for me is very

What does a typical (or not so typical) day look like for you?

Ellen: A day in the life for me is very different every single day. Different things I get to experience as an intern are, a small caseload of individual clients, helping co- facilitate groups. And I'm also contracted out to the local hospital, where I work under a supervisor to care for people and patients who have acute symptoms of mental illness. And all of these things, they're not always easy. And some days I'm running from the hospital back to the office to meet with a client. But in between I have the amazing support of supervision and just my coworkers down the hall from me, I can stop in, ask random questions anytime that I need. And that has been a wonderful part of my daily routine here at Northern Human Services is just the interaction with my coworkers around me. We also have staff meeting every Wednesday morning for three hours. And it's an incredible time of just supportive collaboration within our clinical team and has been such an asset to my learning experience while I've been here as an intern. My days are not always the same. They're not always typical. Today, my client canceled and that's giving me the opportunity to do this video, but whatever the day holds, I know that I can take it one step at a time, one appointment at a time. One crisis at a time when I'm at the hospital. And I always have that support of the people around me and the amazing supervisors that I'm blessed to have here.
