Speaker: Leila Shamas, Sr. Manager, Talent Brand & Marketing

What is one thing you do outside of work?

Leila Shamas: One thing I do outside of work is coach, I coach two teams. One is my youngest child's soccer team. It's a bunch of five and six year old boys. It's a little bit chaotic but it's a lot of fun. Uh, I've been wrangling them and trying to teach them soccer for the last, uh, year and a half. So, three seasons I've been with them now. The other team that I coach is a high school girls gymnastics team. I've been with them for about 6.5 years and I love how I can see the girls kind of graduate become adults and see them through those crazy high school years.

What's your motto?

Leila Shamas: My personal motto is one that I grew up with and it is get on with it. Um It sounds a little bit cold. Um and perhaps not very forgiving, but it's something that my parents said to me a lot while I was growing up. And I think the point of it is to build resilience and to not give in too much to challenges in your life that, you know, there's always a way through, you can always get on with it, get through it. Um and there's always something easier on the other side. So uh get on with it.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be?

Leila Shamas: So if I was to die and come back as a person or a thing, uh I would come back as either a butterfly or a tree. Um I really love nature and I've always associated things with butterflies and they've always hold uh held special meaning for me. Um Trees, I just really love trees. Um I could live in a forest forever. I grew up in an area called the Forest of Dean. Um I wouldn't mind coming back as a tree. I wouldn't mind retiring and then dying in the trees. So I guess a butterfly or a tree is what I'd come back and.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Leila Shamas: Right. My greatest achievement is something that billions of people do. But it's being a parent, I have four sons and I'm really proud I guess of keeping them all alive to start with. But they now range in age from 5 to 11 and I'm proud of keeping myself sane. I'm proud of keeping them happy. I'm proud of teaching them how to be independent functioning humans. And uh parenting is challenging and managing your life as a working parent and a spouse is challenging, but I feel pretty good about how I'm doing it so far. So being a parent.

What does MyNintexFlex (or flexibility) mean to you?

Leila Shamas: Yeah. What MyNintexFlex means to me is that we are freeing up time as an organization through our product for the people that use our product. I think that also translates to the employee experience at Nintex. I really feel like I have all the flexibility that I need to manage my life to do the things that I need personally. And also the flexibility to work in the way that suits me and my ability to be my best self at work, I can be productive, I can produce quality work because I'm not forcing myself to work at times where my body's natural rhythms are not so great. Or times where I know my energies are needed elsewhere, like with my kids or with other personal commitments. So that's what MyNintexFlex means to me.
