Speaker: Holly Grimm, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Brandywine Valley Counseling and Neurofeedback

Who are you and who do you help?

Holly Grimm: My name is Holly Grimm. I am a licensed clinical social worker. I have a private practice with my husband, Todd Grimm, who is a licensed professional counselor. The name of our practice is Brandywine Valley Counseling and Neurofeedback. Therapy wise we see mostly trauma clients, but for our neurofeedback practice we've opened it up to pretty much anybody who would benefit from neurofeedback because we found it to be so helpful. We also employed two technicians who run a lot of the neurofeedback sessions for us.

What problem were you trying to solve when you found NewMind, and what made you choose NewMind over anything else?

Holly Grimm: So when my husband and I first started with neurofeedback, we had actually heard about it at a conference that Bessel van der Kolk was giving about trauma and we had assumed it was a trauma treatment and so we went to get trained. Found out that it could be so much more and we started working under a couple of people getting mentored by a couple of people, and we were feeling really in over our heads. We went to a neurofeedback conference and we're sitting at lunch saying we need to maybe reevaluate whether whether we should be doing neurofeedback because it just feels way too overwhelming and happened to sit with somebody at lunch who said I know the guy you need to talk to, you need to talk to Dr. Soutar and he is going to simplify this whole thing for you. And we ended up talking to Dr. Soutar and he was right. The first time we talked to him we knew we were in the right place with somebody who, I hope I'm not embarrassing him, is so so smart. Probably one of the smartest guys I've I've ever spoken to in my life. And who really helped us come to a space where we felt like as clinicians, and not as engineers or I don't know computer geniuses, that we could really do this for our clients and feel very successful at it

What type of results or successes have you achieved with NewMind?

Holly Grimm: So we have had amazing results with NewMind software. We have over 90% of our clients making tremendous gains, and we know that from the NewMind progress tracking the that they have. But we use both the hardware and the software. The software is not only extremely easy to use, but very detailed in terms of giving a full brain map, but then giving training locations protocols. It's kind of all of the information that a clinician would need in in order to be able not only to present to the client what's going on inside their their heads, but at the same time being able to feel very confident in choosing protocols and choosing training locations and and feeling like we're going to be able to be successful with with most clients. And although the software is amazing and the hardware is amazing, I think what's also amazing is the community, the NewMind community. There are people from a number of different professions that all come together that are willing to answer questions not only about, you know, the exact protocols and things themselves, but also maybe nutrition or, you know, a host of other things. An environment that really makes a big difference when it comes to getting results with clients

How has NewMind simplified home training benefited your clinic and your clients, and how has it helped you grow your business?

Holly Grimm: So although we have two technicians that that work here with us at our center and we've got three rooms that are were able to run neurofeedback sessions in at once. We are still limited right by the number of sessions we can run in a week. And not to mention we have clients who are maybe college students or we live close to Delaware and Maryland and in certain areas they're just there aren't clinicians available for clients and it would be quite a hike to come to see us. And so the home training has been really beneficial for clients. It is extremely user friendly. It walks them through what to do. And we've been able to expand our practice outside of our office. And it has both benefited us as as well as the clients.

How would you describe what NewMind is, to a colleague, and why would you recommend it to them?

Holly Grimm: So how I would describe NewMind to a colleague is to say that it is both the most simple and the most complex system that we have found for neurofeedback. And what I mean by that is, it is the most simple in terms of ease of use, in terms of ability to understand what you're looking at, to get questions answered, to get protocols, all of that. But at the same time it is wildly complex in terms of getting all of the data that you need out of a program like this, you know, being able to have the descriptive type of brain maps that we have, the analysis of what those waves mean in the brain, how that can impact client symptomology. It is just a tremendous system.
