Speaker: Philip Wilkerson, Employer Engagement Consultant, George Mason University Career Services
What is your motivation for and why are you applying to serve on the NACE Board of Directors?
Philip Wilkerson: Hello, everyone. My name is Phil Gerson. Uh The motivation for serving on the NAS Board of directors is twofold. One, I want to contribute to the conversation about what is going on nationally with career services and employer relations professionals. I want to be a part of those discussions. I want to elevate the strategies of those two partners to make sure that we are ensuring a better workforce for students, particularly here at George Mason University. But all over the country. And in the second form of motivation is I want to prove it to myself that regardless of titles, prestige, accolades that I can be one of service on a national level. And I think a lot of times when we look at the service organizations, we see that the only people that are in those positions of leadership are those that are either career services directors or VPs of their organization. And I want to prove to myself as the common man that I have what it takes to contribute to that conversation as well as elevate my own individual career journey and trajectory. I believe that I'm a leader in many different spaces, a leader within my community, a leader within Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, incorporated, a leader in service like the N A AC P. And I want to contribute those intangible leadership skills that I've garnered in a volunteer capacity to N A. And so I think it's a win win. You know, I think that not only will I be growing as a professional, but I can also add to N and so that we both uh get a positive benefit of, of me being on the board. I think that I have uh a thoughtful insight to diversity, equity and inclusion. I think that I'm a creative person that uh contributes dialogue and content in various areas. And I'm just excited to serve. And so thank you so much for this opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you and continuing the conversation about my potential of serving on the board of directors.
