2024 NACE Award Videos: Career Services Champion Award

June 02, 2024

Video Transcript

Speaker: Katherine A. Rowe, President, William & Mary

Describe the importance of career services on your campus.

Katherine A. Rowe: A great university has three responsibilities. Our students have to have a terrific experience on campus and they need to learn in transformative ways. And our graduates need to be ready to pursue lives as citizens and professionals in the 21st century. I'm so proud of William & Mary Career Services. Princeton Review has ranked us the number one public university for internships three years in a row. And as importantly, our graduates tell us 97% of them are on career paths that align well with their interests. That's a great return on investment for our students and their communities.

How do you support the career services office?

Katherine A. Rowe: We made a strategic decision to elevate career services at William & Mary as a whole university priority. We have restructured how we connect four key stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty. We see the relationships among these four as lifelong relationships and I especially want to credit Chief Career Officer Kathleen Powell. She's creative, she's inspiring. She's driven. Congratulations, Kathleen.

What does receiving this award mean to you and to William & Mary?

Katherine A. Rowe: It's an incredible honor that NACE has recognized William & Mary with this award. This is a personal passion for me as president. But much more importantly, career services is a team effort. So to all my colleagues in career services across the university, you are the champions. Thank you.
