How did you find your way to your current role at the Plan?
Brandi Lunos: How did I find my way to my current role at the NALC Health Benefit Plan? Well, I always knew that I wanted to be in a position of leadership one day because I love to be involved and help others. I joined the management program back in 2019 where I learned a lot about the opportunities of this company and just a lot about the company in general. I kept advancing and learning as much as I possibly could until positions opened staff positions and I just put myself out there and I kept applying until eventually I got offered the position.
April Moore: I started here at the plan in 2007, starting in the mail room and then working my way up through several different claims departments that have brought me to being a supervisor in the cost containment department.
Earl Stanley: I found my current path to my current role at NALC Health Benefit Plan over uh about the past 14 years of being in the plan. Now. Um I'm always up for a new challenge and I like to help everybody that I can in any way possible. I like to learn and my current path is as it is right now, I'm a claims supervisor. Um I had a lot of motivation from my peers, um from other coworkers, um other supervisors encouraging me to do so. So I decided to pursue that goal and
Christa : So the way that I found my way to my current position is just through, I would say hard work and determination. I knew that one day I wanted to become a supervisor there. So since being in the entry level position in the mail room, I have just tried to do my best work hard, take advantage of every opportunity that I can. So just working my way up through the departments and then when the right position became open, I went for it.
Sherilyn Burris: Hi, my name is Sherilyn. I have been with the NALC health benefit plan for a little over 16 years. I started as an entry level employee as a keyer and then I worked my way up, um, each department and then ultimately settling into the role of a training supervisor, which is a staff position. I was able to take all the knowledge that I was able to gain in each department, which essentially helped me in my current role as a training supervisor. So that I'm able to basically teach the new trainees or new employees what their responsibilities and the new functions of their current position within the company.
Sam Carpenter: My name is Sam and I'm a trainer at the NALC health benefit plan. I'm part of a special team that provides the knowledge and guidance for new and newly promoted employees to succeed in their new roles. At the plan. I found myself in this role through my dedication to the plan and its members, along with my drive to help others be the best that they can be.
Joe Munayer: So, since starting at the plan, roughly six years ago, I, uh, I've worked my way up from the file room where I learned a lot about, uh, kind of the basics of the company and how things run through some of our claims processing departments. And, uh, and that's gotten me to my role as a claims supervisor currently. Uh, and I'm just really excited to see where things go from here.
Could you share a few details about your favorite part/role and the team at NALC Health Benefit Plan?
Amy Johnson: My favorite part about working for NALC and being a part of this team is that we all have the same ultimate end goal and that is to provide the best service and the best benefits we can for our members.
Danielle Kahele: My favorite part about the health benefit plan is the fact that we can give our members information in a timely manner, whether they want it electronically or they can call in and talk to our customer service department. All of our supervisors collaborate and make sure that everybody has the same information and we all work together.
Anne Supanich: My favorite part of being, um, part of the NALC team is just the whole teamwork and the encouragement that they give and the support um, to help you be the best that you can be.
Melisa Walker: Probably one of my favorite roles as far as training new customer service analysts is, you know, letting them know how important our members are and how they rely on us for courteous and professional um and competent service. And uh being a part of the digital services team, that's very rewarding. We uh strive to make improvements and enhancements um for that member portal on a daily basis. Um So that, that will give our members an overall great digital experience.
Kristin Tyler: at the plan. Uh I like sharing the knowledge that I've gained over the years with the new analysts that are coming up and we're just teaching them how it all goes. Um I think the team of supervisors is great to work with and they're really focused on um ensuring everything is done correctly and giving the best benefit to our members all the time.
Stacey Alcantara: As a claims trainer here at the plan. I love working with all of our employees. They're all awesome, all unique and all very different. I love to problem solve with them, helping them through a tough day of learning. And my favorite part about training is that, aha, moment when the light bulb finally kicks on and I can see that they've mastered what they've been trying to learn.
Joe Munayer: So one of my favorite things about uh my role at the plan is just being able to help uh the people that I supervise, uh just trying to help them get better every single day. And uh the way we do that is paying attention to our members needs uh working on, you know, different tasks during the day based on member requests. And uh that's something that I really enjoy.
What stands out to you about the culture at the NALC Health Benefit Plan?
April Moore: What stands out to me as far as the culture about NALC would have to be the camaraderie and the family oriented feeling that you get when you work here, they really do try to incorporate everyone, involve everyone and include everyone. They also do a lot of activities and participation, events to make you feel like you're a part of a team, you're a part of a family and that especially when you start from the bottom and you work your way up as an analyst through different types of claims departments, you move up with like the same group of people sometimes and that makes you just feel like a family, it just those people are like your friends, you grow up with them in a sense in the departments and that it gives you um a sense of comfort if you will. And I, I value that about this company a lot.
Amy Johnson: What stands out to me as far as the um culture at NALC is that management has an open door policy where you can voice your concerns. Um Basically give opinions um on things that you would like to see changes. Um, emails are constantly going out to all um employees um regarding how things can be done to improve. So they do hear what you have to say.
Sherilyn Burris: What stands out to me the most about the culture here at the NALC health benefit plan is that it's very inviting and welcoming. It's good to see employees come together to reach their individual goals and also the company's goals and hopes of um making the NALC Health benefit plan, one of the most successful plans within the organization.
Stacey Alcantara: The culture of the plan here is very unique. It's different from any other company I've ever worked for. Um I could tell it during my interview, um employees would walk by. Good morning. How are you? Uh It's like a giant family here. Everyone truly cares about each other. Wants everyone to succeed, wants everyone to do well. And that starts from the very bottom all the way to the top. We are a family here at the plant.
Joe Munayer: One thing that has stood out to me since I've been at the plan. Uh and, and it, it's from top to bottom, how we train new team members and uh it impacts uh how we focus on our tasks throughout the day. Uh And that is that everything we do has to do with our members and it all rotates around our members and our members needs. So we really take that point of view. Um You know, whenever we take on a task throughout the day.
Earl Stanley: One of the big things that stands out to me about the current culture at the NALC health benefit plan is the willingness to band together and work as a team. And, and this is just across the entire building to tack and overcome obstacles. Um no matter what they may be, um everybody from, you know, the the entry level positions up to the the highest level of, you know, management at the plan, we all share the same common goal we come in daily, we work to the best of our ability and we support one another. Um regardless of how, you know, much we may be facing. Um solidarity and working together is something that is, is noticeable and it's, it's admirable and it really shows that the, the team at the plan in its entirety, they're there for the long haul.
