Speaker: Mohammed Miah

Briefly explain your experience in the moving industry doing operational management.

Mohammed Miah: Hello. Um, I do not have experience in, uh, the moving industry but I do have experience, uh, managing, uh, vehicles and people. Part of my job would be to make sure making sure that the vehicles were up to date and maintenances and services. If there were anything wrong with the, the vehicles, then, um, I would schedule, uh, vendors or mechanics to come and fix them. I've also interacted with drivers and, uh, people who worked under me, they would bring issues about and I would either tell them on, I tell them how to fix it or guide them on the proper solution.

What is your process for building a great moving team but also keeping direct labor under control?

Mohammed Miah: My process would be to first understand what the employees are capable of doing. I want my best players to be in the forefront of the job. I know I wouldn't want to burn them out. So I'd keep, uh rotating them when I used to do H VAC. Uh six years ago, my supervisor made the mistake of giving a single person the exhausting job. So in turn, um that person was all tired out and couldn't continue doing their job. So if they were to in a sense, tag out and take turns tackling the job, one single person would have very little contact, it would be my uh pro productivity dispersement method, I would say.

What's your process for training movers and drivers?

Mohammed Miah: My process for training, movers and drivers would be to do hands on experience. Um, they would have a ride along so they would be going out in the field with an experienced player. So so that the experienced person can teach them the ins and outs.

What's your process for handling claims?

Mohammed Miah: My process for handling claims would be to take multiple pictures and really understand what the situation is. Uh, depending on what it is, I would have to tackle it differently. Um, if it's a damaged product or material, then it would be much different than an injured employee or, um, injured, uh, customer. Um, I definitely would have to stay in contact with the claims adjusters and everyone involved in the accident.

What's your process for fleet maintenance?

Mohammed Miah: For fleet maintenance. I would recommend doing pre and post inspections. Um When you do the pri it would be in the morning before going out to the job and then post when returning from the jobs. Uh, then I would record any damages, both old and new. I would record the mileage and anywhere and tear on the tires. I would personally also, um, to the oils and t tired threads, threads, sorry. And um, if there are any dash lights, I would um, make sure those are addressed. Um, there is an app called Wero. Uh, we've used it to take pictures and write any notes down on what happened when it happened and why it happened.

How do you effectively handle the scheduling and dispatch of crews daily?

Mohammed Miah: I would make sure that everyone is here on time and it's, um, in proper uniform. Um, I'll make sure that all of their jobs are laid out and they know what they're doing, make sure that they have the proper equipment and just making sure everyone's ready, ready to roll.

How do you handle inventory and equipment management?

Mohammed Miah: I would handle inventory equipment by uh keeping track of what we have, what went out and what we need. If there are any items that are diminishing, uh being used up, I would make a list and I would order them um, things such as dollies, those get pretty expensive. So I make sure that every single dolly is in, is in every single band, making sure that when we leave with um tools and materials, we come back with the very same ones.

What are 2 major things you do to promote safety?

Mohammed Miah: Actually do a few things to promote safety, uh proper shoes. Thus, lifting techniques, making sure they're using their power zones when lifting uh maintaining three points of contact when entering and exiting vehicles. And always, always remind everyone to take a slow and steady. Um It doesn't make sense to run yourself, getting injured and then being set back, it doesn't help anyone. Um and also staying hydrated and resting.

Why should we hire you?

Mohammed Miah: He used to hire me because I have experience in managing multiple aspects of my job um from vehicles to people. I'm also very motivated and the people I used to work with would say that I'm hard working, meticulous, honest, and eager to succeed.
