Why did you want to become a Certified Patient Family Partner?

Tiffani M Simmons: I wanted to be a patient family partner because I realized that I have a story to tell. And I wanted to use my story to help highlight some of the problems in the healthcare and mental healthcare system, especially for black women, in hopes that my story could help save other moms from having to suffer the way that I did.

What did you like most about the training?

Huda Altamimi: What I liked most about the training was really the everything, everything was very beneficial for me. It helped me gain so much confidence in sharing my story and not just to be able to share my story anywhere. I was able to kind of build confidence in speaking and educating physicians. Um, you know, I had a background with educating physicians, but not something very, very personal. Um, and I really really enjoyed the activities.

Kate Boydston: I loved that the trainings were done by real people that I get to communicate with through MoMMA's Voices. I also really loved how in depth and informative all of the presentations were. I learned a lot about the media, which I think is really important because when stepping into this role, that is a big possibility of being able to talk to news outlets or different types of media presenters and give our story and share our story. And I thought that was the most important part of the whole training.

How did you feel after using your #momvoice?

Trashaun Powell : Using my mom voice allows me to be inspired, it allows me to inspire others, and it feels like I have a Supermom cape on, that I'm helping to serve my community, helping to serve others. And it just feels so empowering, invigorating, and it allows me to impact change and to share hope with with others.

Quantrilla Ard: So I'd like to let others know that using your Mom voice is power. Using your Mom voice is advocacy. And using your Mom voice is a tool of healing. Being able to share your story to share your perspective, to help others to do the same. It is an opportunity that is unparalleled anytime you get a chance share your story. Because it matters, it matters to other mamas. It matters to groups and advocacy agencies who are trying to mitigate negative birth outcomes. Your story matters. So never be afraid to use your Mom voice. Always speak up and invite a friend to do the same.
