Speaker: Maggie Jo Everett

What does receiving Spirit of State mean to you?

Maggie Jo Everett: To me receiving the spirit of State is so special. I think it truly culminates the last four years of being a student at Mississippi State University receiving this award is truly an honor because it means that I am truly being honored and recognized for the work and time that I've given to the university and the amazing people that make up this university.

What has been your most rewarding experience at MSU?

Maggie Jo Everett: My most rewarding experience at Mississippi State has been being a supplemental instruction leader for organic chemistry. I understand that this is a traditionally very challenging course. And so finding my passion through teaching others and helping others have their aha moment of learning the material while also being encouraged in their course work has been such a prideful time for me and to be able to see students and encourage them week by week was truly such such an honor.

In what ways can you continue to embody the Spirit of State?

Maggie Jo Everett: I think the ways that I will carry the spirit of state with me throughout my entire life is due to the way that I will serve the state of Mississippi through being a rural physician. I'm a rural physician scholar and I'm beginning medical school during the fall at U MC. And I'm so excited to serve our state while carrying my love and passion for Mississippi State University. Wherever I go.
