Speaker: Jeffery Johnson Jr.
What does receiving Spirit of State mean to you?
Jeffery Johnson Jr.: Hey guys, this is Jeff here. I just want to say, receiving the Spirit of State award, it means the world to me. Um It just shows like all the hard work that I've been putting in like to serve MSU and this campus since I touched down in Starkville. Um I'm truly grateful for this award and you know, the work isn't done. I just hope to continue, keep moving forward and keep just building upon and just keep giving back to those that I can.
What has been your most rewarding experience at MSU?
Jeffery Johnson Jr.: Some of my most rewarding experiences here at MSU? Um just being in these student orgs that help people and give to others like being a part of SPARK, being a part of the group that allow 200 to 300 underrepresented students apply to MSU early. Like some students who don't even think they're going to college, they can't afford it. They get a chance to apply to this institution early before other students. Um given tours to families making MSU feel like a home welcoming students as far as New Maroon Camp to this campus, like helping them find friends, helping them find their places and stuff like that. Um Just really being here and just giving back, but I just love that type of stuff. So that's like one of the most rewarding experience once you see everybody else enjoying themselves from different opportunities and different organizations on this campus.
In what ways can you continue to embody the Spirit of State?
Jeffery Johnson Jr.: The ways I can just to continue doing the work and continue embodying the Spirit of State. You know, like I said, the work isn't over. Like, I'm only a sophomore. I have two more full years here. I plan to continue to keep giving to university as far as like the organizations, I'm in just making positive relationship like with professors and students and really just being like a light and hopefully a familiar face on this campus. So like people know, like if they need help or they need resources, you can come to me. I might not have the resources but I can get you to the place that does happen. So I just want to keep being the person I am and just keep being a light to this university really.
