What does receiving Spirit of State mean to you?
Cameron T. Mayers: To me, receiving a Spirit of State award means truly the world to me. I think when you look at the Spirit of State award, it's truly about how has your time at the university, whatever your tenure is, how has that affected not only the student life but administration, the way campus really moves? I think it's truly great that looking back four years ago, uh the Cameron Mayers that I kind of knew back then and seeing where he would go now is truly a phenomenal thing. Um, just thank you to the administration, the student body for really pouring into me and seeing the things that I wanted to make my four years out of the university truly be and I'm glad that they impacted them as well.
What has been your most rewarding experience at MSU?
Cameron T. Mayers: My most rewarding moment at Mississippi State University is definitely being chief of staff under the Guest administration for the Student Association. Uh My role in being the chief of staff was being over 102 first-year students kind of leading and guiding them along their first way, not only just in student government but in campus life as well. I was in their shoes just three years before that in fall of 2020, and that was truly a remarkable experience that basically kick-started my university career. To say that I had a part in 102 of their individual journeys wherever they end up at the university is truly remarkable, and I can't believe what great leaders they are today looking back.
How can you continue to embody the Spirit of State?
Cameron T. Mayers: In ways that I can continue to embody the Spirit of State, it's truly a lot of ways that I can take. Um, as a soon to be alumnus of the university, giving back is probably one of the best things that I can do, whether that be scholarship for our minority initiatives, giving back to the organizations that once poured into me or just truly coming back and seeing what the university has for students and generations to come. I really think that's what is gonna help me truly embody going forward is just giving back to the university that pours so much into me during my first four years and seeing that uh continue throughout generations of students that come here.
