Speaker: Wendy Pigott

Introduce yourself and show us what you made in the Sculptural Embroidery course (or show us what you have made since taking the course).

Wendy Pigott : Hi, I'm Wendy. I live in Bristol in the UK. I thoroughly enjoyed the sculptural embroidery course. And this is the little 3d house which you can pop a tea light in that I created in on the course as a complete beginner. So I amazed myself. It was great.

Why did you join the Sculptural Embroidery course and what did you get out of the course?

Wendy Pigott : I was bought the course by my husband as a gift, because I had much admired Meredith's work and I thought, oh, my goodness, this is way too advanced. I can't do any of this. It's much too hard. I'm a total beginner. What on earth am I going to do? But the videos were so clear and Meredith's teaching is so good that I was absolutely thrilled with what I achieved at the end and it was beyond my expectations. And I now love working with water soluble fabric and I just keep discovering new things and going on and on and Meredith never made me feel that just because I was a beginner I wouldn't be able to do it. Quite the opposite. She made me feel as if I absolutely could do this and she was right.

What was your favourite thing about the Sculptural Embroidery course?

Wendy Pigott : I think my favorite thing about the course, apart from seeing all the amazing work that the other people on the course did, which was fantastic and really inspirational, was just to use a new medium, to use water soluble fabric, which I had used once or twice, but in a different way and just discover a whole new world of being able to add to artwork that I already created, just added another layer. Really, it's always exciting to discover something, something new.

What would you say to someone who was considering taking this course in the future?

Wendy Pigott : I would say if you are thinking of taking this course and you've got any interest in embroidery or creating textile works, just do it because it's fantastic. You will learn so much about working with water soluble fabric. I also learn things about my sewing machine that I didn't know. It is not a cheap course, but it is worth every penny because there is so much content in the course. So much support, so much opportunity to ask questions to learn more that you get so much from it that it is totally worth it. As a beginner I was terrified that this was a lot of money and I wasn't going to be able to do it. But I say jump in. Do it. You'll love it. I made this, couldn't believe it. Have fun.
