Speaker: Rebecca Wolske

Introduce yourself and show us what you made in the Sculptural Embroidery course.

Rebecca Wolske: Hello, my name is Rebecca and I did the sculptural course with Meredith And I do textile art like something here behind me. And I actually had done these leaves after the course. I really loved doing it even though I do a lot of sewing, I, always can learn something new no matter what I kind of course, I do, you know, you learn something new. So I embarked on the course and these were my, my first samples that we did in, in the course, which was really cute I did in really fluro stuff and that was a lot of fun and it showed me a lot of different little techniques that I hadn't done before. So that was great. And since then I've made quite a lot of different sculptural things. It's helped improve my technique. So now I'm, I'm a bit of a leaf crazy person. So these are the kinds of things that I'm now making. So, I also just have a make day when I do my stuff and I even put them on my boards like this. So that then all of a sudden when I feel like having a leaf on something which I normally do, I just pick them off my little sample board that I've made and, and off I go. So that's what I've been doing since I did the course and I absolutely loved that I did it. It was wonderful to meet so many lovely people. Share all our little experiences. And, yeah, my journey is still going. So thank you Meredith and thank you to everyone else that I made friends with.

Why did you join the Sculptural Embroidery course and what did you get out of the course?

Rebecca Wolske: So why did I join the sculptural embroidery course? I'm always looking to find new ways to add new things to my textile art, which is what I do. And, I loved what I've always followed Meredith and followed her beautiful work for the last, I don't know how many years you've been doing at Meredith, but I've always loved it. And I'm like, wow, I'm getting in on what Meredith knows and finding some new tips. So, what did I get out of it? Well, it showed me a few different things that I didn't know. I mean, I do a lot of sewing but, you know, just understanding thread, and I knew some things to do with the embroidery of keeping the stitches together. But little techniques, little different ways that Meredith keeps them together or makes them uniform. even knowing that I could use just a single strand, that was quite an interesting little 'aha' moment that I had, because I like to use all different techniques. So, yeah, I got a lot out of it and, even though I do a lot of sewing, I'm glad I did it. And yeah, it's helped me improve what I do and give me more tools in the toolbox of creativity.

What was your favourite thing about the Sculptural Embroidery course?

Rebecca Wolske: My favorite thing about the course was being part of a group of creative people on the same journey. I loved what I learned, but I also loved being every week looking forward to what was the next part of the course and what are we looking into? And, that's what I really loved. I just loved being part of it all and the Facebook group afterwards and seeing what everyone made, it was a really nice way to connect with a whole lot of people and make some beautiful work.

What would you say to someone who was considering taking this course in the future?

Rebecca Wolske: So if I was considering recommending this course to someone I would consider it because Meredith is such a beautiful teaching person. She is really sharing, you know, nothing is held back. She shares every single tiny little tip from the very basic stitch from the very start to the very end. Nothing is missed and she will answer everyone's questions no matter how many questions they are, she will answer every single one and she doesn't leave you thinking, you know, what if, what if this, what if that she answers them all? So she's a very generous teacher and I would do her courses in the future. When I feel that I would want to further more. So yeah, lovely course. Thank you, Meredith.
