Speaker: Meredith Yeoman

Introduce yourself and show us what you have made since taking the course.

Meredith Yeoman: Hello. My name is Meredith Yeoman. I did Meredith Woolnough's first Sculptural Embroidery course about two years ago. My piece that I made for the course was a 'Gum Blossom'. This gum blossom started me on pathway of making flowers, mainly Australian natives out of thread such as my 'Waratah'. I now enter art shows, sell through galleries, but I'm most well known for my gun blossoms. And this is my latest piece.

Why did you join the Sculptural Embroidery course and what did you get out of the course?

Meredith Yeoman: I did this course because my sister has one of Meredith's artworks hanging at her home. And it fascinated me. Whenever I visited, I would stare at it all the time. And then one day my sister came up to me and said Meredith's doing an online course. So I immediately looked it up and straight away I was there. From this course. I have a whole new career in the arts. Sewing is no longer a a chore. And I'm loving every minute of it.

What was your favourite thing about the Sculptural Embroidery course?

Meredith Yeoman: My favorite thing about the course would have to be the Facebook group. It's a very supportive and nurturing group of like-minded people. If asked, we help each other out with suggestions on how we would achieve something and we get to cheer each other on. We also get to show off our pieces, which is a lot of fun and something we still all participate in.

What would you say to someone who was considering taking this course in the future?

Meredith Yeoman: If you're thinking about doing this course, then my advice to you is to stop thinking and just do it. The course is great. It's fashioned into bite size pieces of information and skills with plenty of time for you to practice before you move on to the next lesson. Meredith is a wonderful teacher and does not hold back on imparting her considerable knowledge, but we're not there to slavishly copy her work. But we are encouraged to go off and forge our own path as this is a discipline that lends itself to many different art forms. Like I said, this course has changed my life and I'm so happy that I took the plunge and did the sculptural embroidery course.
