Speaker: Lesley Pearce

Introduce yourself and show us what you made in the Sculptural Embroidery course

Lesley Pearce: Hi, everyone. Leslie Pearce. Here. I did Meredith's course and I just adored it. This is what I managed to do. at the end. It's an Agapanthus I'm from New Zealand. Hence the agapanthus Look. I also screen printed the bottom and I'll show you what I've done since. So this is of a house plant in my house and it's such great fun.

Why did you join the Sculptural Embroidery course and what did you get out of the course?

Lesley Pearce: I chose to do Meredith's course because I've been doing textiles work for a long time. My favorite bit is textiles printing, but I wanted to become more competent in using the sewing machine and creating different things just using threads. And so anything to do with a machine, embroidery and textiles. And also I love the way Meredith talks, So that was fantastic. What did I get out of the course? Confidence and support, which is absolutely vital when you're starting a new technique.

What was your favourite thing about the Sculptural Embroidery course?

Lesley Pearce: The my favorite thing I would say was the online support. The fact that I could listen to Meredith and I could stop it whenever I wanted to go and practice a bit, come back if I was unsure of it and just the way Meredith explains things, really, really gave me the confidence to continue exploring this new medium. So, yes, it was brilliant.

What would you say to someone who was considering taking this course in the future?

Lesley Pearce: For those of you who are thinking about doing Meredith's course, my only advice to you is to think about your love of textiles, how you want to take something in a different direction and know once you know the techniques the way that you know how to work your machine and it doesn't matter how long you've been working with a sewing machine, you can't fail to learn some new tricks and hence it was worth the financial investment I put into it. It really is and I keep using this word, It really does give you the confidence to explore it and it doesn't stop you putting your own creative bent on your future as a textile artist. Just do it. You won't regret it.
