Introduce yourself and show us what you made in the Sculptural Embroidery course (or show us what you have made since taking the course).
Laurie Monsma: Hi, my name is Laurie Monsma. And I took Meredith's sculptural embroidery class. And here are some of the things that I made. These were based on projects we did during the class. Here's another flower. And I'm inspired by nature. So I did some leaf projects. That has wire in it. And here's a larger piece. I also took the framing class which was very helpful. My last final project was this tree with cherry blossoms and I used some of my home spun yarn couched in the project as well.
Why did you join the Sculptural Embroidery course and what did you get out of the course?
Laurie Monsma: I joined Meredith's sculptural embroidery class based on some of the video testimonies of other people in the past who have taken the class. I had Meredith's book, but I do better when I can see a project. The videos were very helpful with the hands on showing me how to do the techniques and that's what I really liked about it. Also, I've worked with water soluble stabilizer and free motion quilting in the past and I just wanted to push it more into the sculptural aspect and I enjoy that part of the class.
What was your favourite thing about the Sculptural Embroidery course?
Laurie Monsma: My favourite part of taking the class was being part of the Facebook group and the live meetings that we had. Meredith was so encouraging and answered all of my questions and just really encouraged people along the way and I really enjoyed that.
What would you say to someone who was considering taking this course in the future?
Laurie Monsma: If you're considering taking Meredith's Sculptural embroidery class, I would strongly encourage you to do so. I really enjoyed it myself. It was very encouraging. I loved being part of the Facebook group and seeing other people's ideas and their final projects as well as well because it spurred me on and gave me lots of inspiration. But again, Meredith's personal touch in her involvement and engagement in the group was outstanding. So you can't get that from a book. I would recommend you take this class.
