Speaker: Gib Godwin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mercy Medical Angels
Could you describe your motivation for supporting Mercy Medical Angels?
Gib Godwin: I was motivated 26 years ago to join Mercy Medical Angels by a fellow church member. It was very interesting for me to see my first time, what it meant to the patients, and I went home that evening and told my wife, this is something I could be very passionate about. At the time, I was working for a large, defense contractor. And I had no choice to, uh, do anything in a leadership role, but, I was selected to be a board member, and served on the board for 25 years because this meant so much to me personally, having had a brother that had colon cancer, that didn't survive.
What does Mercy Medical Angels' mission mean to you personally?
Gib Godwin: Mercy Medical Angel's mission means so very much to me because I have a special needs grandchild that had to use Angel Flight Mid-Atlantic Service to get her back from a visit to us here in the Houston area. The doctor recommended that she come back for a checkup. I am I knew the pilot extremely well as he was the chairman of our board, and it was personal to him to assist us in getting my grandchild back to the doctor's office. I see this every day as I'm the CEO and president of Mercy Medical. It really has a big impact on me seeing the services that we provide to others that are in need. Veterans that are in critical condition with the traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress disorder. Is a huge Impact on me because I'm a Veteran myself. This is a very important mission. It's the only nationwide mission that provides all modes of transportation across the country, and it's just a critical need, at this time.
How do you see your role as a leader impacting the organization's success?
Gib Godwin: As I'm the president and CEO of Mercy Medical Angels. It's obvious a critical position for me to provide the vision, the direction. And all the leadership that's necessary for a small group of people that's serving nationwide.
