Speaker: Marie Dessaillen, Context Expert

Marie Dessaillen: Hi, my name is Marie Dessaillen. I live in Paris, though I spend half my time traveling around the world.

Marie Dessaillen: In this conversation, we are going to talk about the Louvre collections and some of my favorite pieces in the Louvre. Now, that's a tricky thing for me because I've been going to the Louvre since I was three weeks old. My dad used to work there when I was born. So he proudly showed me around to all of his colleagues... so they say. And I've been going there since I was a child and so I have a lot of favorites. But in this presentation, I'm focusing on mostly the Renaissance, Italian Renaissance, the Dutch Golden Age, and the French Classical and Romantics in the 19th century. So this way you can see a few different parts of the Louvre. But the Louvre is gigantic.

Marie Dessaillen: Did you know, it actually takes three months to see the whole of the Louvre? If you want to, you know, take three seconds for every piece in the Louvre That's how long it would take.

Marie Dessaillen: And so what I have to do is to mix the stories of the paintings with the stories of the people who bought them and to make it all come to life in a particular time period.

Marie Dessaillen: This is a seminar that you can take if you've been to the Louvre before and you want to go more in-depth into some particular paintings. It is for people who haven't been to the Louvre yet and want to have a sort of an idea of what you're going to see when you get there.

Marie Dessaillen: It is the equivalent of the Context Crash Course for visiting the Louvre in person – and it really works for absolutely everybody in my experience. So I hope to see you very soon.
