What is your name and role at MAS?
Rajnil Maharaj: Hi everyone My name is Rajnil Maharaj, and I'm thrilled to be your Business Risk Adviser here at MAS.
How long have you been at MAS?
Rajnil Maharaj: I've been with MAS for 1-year 3-months now and it's been an incredible journey so far.
What roles have you had prior to working at MAS?
Rajnil Maharaj: Over my 12-year career, I have worn many hats. They have been an Insurance Broker, I have been a Banker, I have been a Quality Assurance Analyst and now I am an Adviser with MAS.
What does the Business Risk team do?
Rajnil Maharaj: Well, we consider ourselves to be the business risk management backbone here at MAS. And we look after our Members' business risk policies, their business risk environment by providing the right kind of policies to assess and help mitigate their risks so that they have some form of surety when they go and operate in a very dynamic environment, world, which is the commercial sector.
What do you do in your role?
Rajnil Maharaj: As a Business Risk Adviser, I collaborate with businesses to identify and mitigate their risks. I do this by asking the right kind of questions so that Members themselves are able to realize the full scope of risk mitigation they need. And then I am able to offer them the right kind of tailor-made solutions. MAS would like to see its Members do well in their businesses, and I am here to ensure that that goal is realised.
Why is Business Insurance important?
Rajnil Maharaj: Great question. Business Risk isn't just about avoiding pitfalls. It's also about seizing opportunities. Having the right kind of risk mitigation tools and techniques in place, enables the business to be able to innovate and grow and move forward in the future, in the current business environment. It enables them to compete effectively to be profitable and to be efficient. Any business does not only involve a business proprietor or a business owner, it involves a number of people. It involves the community, the employees, their families and there's a lot at stake to ensure that these businesses continue to exist and they continue to exist in a viable manner. So, yes, business risk and the business risk policy is there to ensure that the right kind of tools are available to, a business when the need arises.
What hobbies and interest do you have outside of MAS?
Rajnil Maharaj: When I'm not at MAS I like to play squash. I like to keep fit, so I go to the gym. I like running because life is a marathon and I spend time with family because basically they are my anchor.
