What is your name and role at MAS?
Colin McTaggart: Hi there, I'm Colin McTaggart and I'm a Business Risk Adviser with M.A.S. My role is to talk to our Members, get to know them better and assist them with any business insurance requirements that they may have.
How long have you been at MAS?
Colin McTaggart: I've been with MAS now just over 15 years, started as a Branch Adviser in the Auckland office, specialising in lending and assisting our Members with other enquiries like insurance, life insurance and investments.
What roles have you had prior to working at MAS?
Colin McTaggart: Prior to joining MAS, I spent about 16 years in the banking industry starting in the support sector, working my way through analyst and ending up as a business banker.
What does the Business Risk team do?
Colin McTaggart: The Business Risk team. Yeah, we're all about getting to know our business owning Members better and I guess helping them understand that their financial risks that they face with owning and operating a business that usually involves quite a lot of listening, some tailored advice and culminates with providing solutions to our Members to help mitigate those risks.
What do you do in your role?
Colin McTaggart: In my role, I guess there's 2 key things that I do. Primarily I reach out to our Members prior to their business insurance policies renewing and look to review and update their covers just to make sure that they have the appropriate cover in place should anything ever happen. And possibly more importantly, strengthen and broaden the relationship our Members have with MAS through connecting them to other specialist services that MAS has to offer.
Why is Business Insurance important?
Colin McTaggart: Business insurance is, is important. It's a business, is not just a business owner, it's the directors or partners, their families, the employees of the business and the community that they serve. So any interruption to that business has a major impact across a number of areas. And business insurance helps to bridge that and helps to allow continuity and certainty for all of those parties.
What hobbies and interest do you have outside of MAS?
Colin McTaggart: Outside of MAS. Yeah, I definitely do have a life. I'm a voracious devourer of books, both online and old school paper. Still do a little bit of archery, and spend as much time outside as I can be that in the garden or going for a walk through the bush, down by the sea. Yeah, just getting out and about enjoying life.
