What is your name and role at MAS?
Chris Coughey: Hello, I am Chris Coughey. I am the Business Risk Adviser for the Bay Plenty, Waikato region.
How long have you been at MAS?
Chris Coughey: I started with MAS in October 2022.
What roles have you had prior to working at MAS?
Chris Coughey: I've worked in a number of areas in insurance, including broking and sales, claims and underwriting. I've also owned my own business which gives me great insight.
What does the Business Risk team do?
Chris Coughey: We provide specialist advice and risk solutions to our Members and we also refer Members to other experts within the company such as HealthyPractice and income protection. We also raise awareness of the MAS Foundation.
What do you do in your role?
Chris Coughey: I listen to the needs and concerns of our business owners and practice managers and work alongside them to reduce risk and provide tailored insurance packages. Part of our job is translating insurance speak as well.
Why is Business Insurance important?
Chris Coughey: Our Members are essential to the health of New Zealand. Our mission is to keep them and their reputation, safe and secure and keep them going so they can do what they do best.
What hobbies and interest do you have outside of MAS?
Chris Coughey: When we're not pottering around on our lifestyle block, we're often found doing our own stunts, mountain biking in the forest, or exploring the beautiful lakes and beaches of our beautiful country. As a family, we give back to the community a lot and you'll often find me down at the local soup kitchen.
