Martha Stoumen Wines customer Lauren June on how Post Flirtation white was a 'unicorn' wine for her, and why she loves natural wine.

What was the first time a natural wine blew your mind?

Lauren June: I'm Lauren, Martha Stoumen wine club member. This is Sturgill. He also loves natural wine. He had a bit too much last night. So he's not going to say very much in this video. But yeah, I love this question because I have been sort preaching about natural wine to my friends for the past few years, and they always ask me, "Why?What's the difference? Who cares?" And I think I definitely had kind of, an eye opening moment a few years back. I was at Scribe, and I was tasting their Carneros Pinot and Chardonnay versus their estate chardonnay, which were produced in the exact same manner, but just a few miles of distance between the winery and the coast. Same varietals just brought out such different characteristics in the grapes, and I just couldn't believe the difference because they were just allowed to express themselves and to be what they were going to be as oppoesd to having those distinctive elements muted out, you know, with additives and chemicals. And after you kind of realized that the wines that are manipulated in that way start to taste really flat and just kind of boring and so that you can't enjoy them. But it's just like wine. Where is when I'm drinking natural wines? For better or worse, I am thinking the entire time I'm drinking, I'm finding exciting and weird and cool and really original and honest characteristics in them. And it's challenging, and it's like stimulating, exciting. And I just think it's really hard to go back once you've kind of seen the light. And another way, I kind of explain, is with the analogy of pop music, it's really easy to turn on the radio. And hear the Top 40 song that has been scientifically formulated, produced to appeal to the most number of people possible doesn't need to be super original or super special. It's just gotta, stick in your head, but if you take a little more time and dig and kind of like find music that maybe you need to research or go out and see shows or whatever it's it's harder to find. It's not as easy to digest. It's going to make you think a little bit more, but you're going to get a lot more out of it. It's gonna be something special to you. I sort of feel like that's how it is with natural wine. It's like the indie rock of wine and, you know won't appeal to everyone. But that's OK, but at least it's real. I just think it's really exciting. And, I'm just so glad that I discovered these wines and I'm just constantly surprised and delighted.

What intrigued you about our wines that made you seek us out?

Lauren June: As far as when I discovered Martha Stoumen Wines. I think I've already started reading some reviews articles, so the name was in my head. But I happen to be a Cala having an amazing meal and was describing kind of my dream wine, to the server, looking for just a glass of white wine and had idea of what I was looking for. And he just looked at me and he said, I think I know what you want to try brought me a taste of the Post Flirtation White and I loved it. It was like my unicorn wine, just in terms of, like, body minerality, acidity. It was everything I asked for. So immediately came home and ordered the Post Flirtation 2-pack because I figured if the white was that good, the red would not let me down. And it did not, and so it was really happy when the wine club started up because it gave me access to you. So many more, wines love the Nero D'Avola and zZn, and it's just been, absolutely privilege and pleasure to get to trial of these wines and love supporting a female winemaker. Always. So that's definitely a part of it. But yeah, I think, they're just so honest and so good and so fresh and just alive and that I'm a big, big fan of what you're doing. So please keep it coming. Right, Serge? Right.
