Speaker: Marcus and Courtney
Introduce yourselves!
Marcus and Courtney: Hi. My name is Courtney and this is my husband Marcus Marcus and we live in Northwest Iowa and we're hoping to adopt a baby. I'm a professional photographer for a living and I've been the leading seller at our local window and door company for the past two years. And we both teach swing dancing on the weekends.
When thinking about the future, what type of relationship do you hope to have with your child's birth family?
Marcus and Courtney: We would like to pursue an open adoption with birth parents so that our child can know where they come from and it would just be that much more people to love on the child. Yeah, whether that's phone calls, text messages, you know, just even going to events, just birthday parties or whatever, you know, we think that that would be great for that uh child to know uh their original birth parents. Um, but also having that space too that the birth parents would like as well.
What one word describes your family best? Why?
Marcus and Courtney: Um a good word to describe our family would be hospitable. Um We really, really love people and when we bought this house back in 2020 we decided that we wanted it to be a safe space for not only our family but for um friends that we love and, and yeah, so that's kind of what it's been so far. Yeah, we always have birthday parties at our place. Um, we have Christmas parties every year. Um Everybody kind of knows that we have Christmas parties here so they always come back and um yeah, it's a very open environment. So everybody knows that this is kind of like a safe place to be at our house.
What makes your family stand out?
Marcus and Courtney: One thing that's special about us, I think is the story of how we met. We both performed in Beauty and The Beast for our local night show. And it was a lot of fun because my job was to teach Marcus how to waltz and I had no idea how to waltz. So, uh needless to say we needed a lot of extra practice and through that, we became really, really good friends. Um And by the end of the show, we were waltzing to human again. Um And then after that, we just spent a lot of time together. Um We were intentional friends for at least like nine or 10 months uh before we started dating. But yeah, it's just a special story I think. And now we teach dance together. We've been teaching for over four years now. So, yeah, pretty cool.
