Speaker: Cathy Lindsey, Director of Marketing and Communications, Frankfort Plant Board
Introduce yourself (your name, where you're from, what you do)
Cathy Lindsey: Hi, I'm Cathy Lindsey, a native of Frankfort, Kentucky. That's where I work right here in Frankfort, as the Director of Communications and Marketing for the Frankfort Plant Board. We are a company that's been around here in Frankfort for 80 years. We're a public utility where we offer services that are essential to the quality of life. We offer electric, water, and telecomm services and that includes high speed internet service. We're rolling out our, our fiber internet where you can get speeds up to one gig. So we're a big city here in Frankfort and it's making things very exciting
What part of town do you live in and what do you love about your neighborhood?
Cathy Lindsey: I live in South Frankfort, which is just across the river from downtown Frankfort all within walking distance. It's a great place to live because you can just get out and you can walk to the playground. if you have kids, you can walk across the bridge and go to a number of restaurants, ice cream shop, bakery. We have museums downtown, also live close enough to walk to our state capital and our old capital. and just a lot of neat things to learn. Again, if you're interested in learning more about Frankfort or about the history of Kentucky, it's just all right there within walking distance. If that's not really your thing, we also have a lot of cool, we're in distillery country here. You can go take distillery tours to learn more about our signature industry here in Kentucky, especially here in Frankfort. And that's bourbon again. It's a learning experience. There's all kinds of things for people to do here. And if you drive a little further, then you can also check out all of our, our horse country. So it's just beautiful here. Lots of things to learn, be entertained, great food. So again, I just, I love living downtown because it's just all within walking distance. So I would recommend that.
What's a must-do event or activity that remote workers should experience in their first year?
Cathy Lindsey: If you've chosen Frankfort as your home, I have to recommend an event that we have every year. It's called Bourbon on the Banks and it's in October and it is a great weekend long event where people from all over the world come to check out our signature industry here. And that's Bourbon. but it's not just about bourbon. On Friday night, It's a whole weekend, on Friday night, we have an event called Bourbon Street on Broadway and its family friendly. You can bring your kids, your parents, anybody to come downtown. The award winning band from Kentucky State University comes and puts on a great show and we bring in circus acts that do trapeze artistry, they do juggling, fire swinging artistry. They do all kinds of stuff. Oh a man on stilts. It's very exciting, but it, it's just a big fun filled event and all of our downtown merchants join in and they put together drink specials, featuring, you know, bourbon drinks, but also we have great food downtown. So it's just a great opportunity for all the community to come out downtown on Friday night and, and just come together and celebrate.
Lastly, end with an invitation. Invite potential new neighbors to come join your community!
Cathy Lindsey: So I invite you to come because you're really missing out if you don't. And we hope to see you soon.
