Introduce yourself (your name, where you're from, what you do)
Casey Hockersmith: Hi, I'm Casey Hocker smith, I'm a real estate agent here in the lovely Crawfordsville, Indiana. I was born and raised here and I have spent most of my life here in Crawfordsville with the exception of a few years that I left for college and also during the start of my career. There is a phrase that a business bestie of mine says and I'm stealing it from her because I love it. She says I left and then I came back on purpose. I chose to live in Crawfordsville, Indiana. My husband, Zach and I have been married for 12 years and we came back to Crawfordsville on purpose about eight years ago and um we have been doing life, we've established our careers here. We have two little rascals, a six year old and a three year old that we are raising here and we are plugged into our community. Um There are so many ways that we have gotten involved with our community, through volunteering with organizations, through serving on boards of nonprofits here in Crawfordsville. And without a doubt we would not have had those opportunities had we lived anywhere else. It is such a unique ecosystem here in Crawfordsville. We have a tremendous amount of nonprofit organizations and for profit businesses that support them and they've created a really incredible community and they've provided opportunities that I absolutely would not have had anywhere else. And that has really helped my husband and I connect to our community with other residents um as well as you know, businesses and organizations and it's been an incredible experience. We cannot imagine raising our family anywhere else. We cannot imagine having our careers anywhere else, but right here.
What's a must-do event or activity that remote workers should experience in their first year?
Casey Hockersmith: A must do event or attraction that you absolutely have to do during your first year. living in Crawfordsville is a lengthy list. Um, I have so many recommendations for you to experience during your first year here. Um, there's the Sugar Creek canoe race that happens every May. We have an incredible creek right here in Crawfordsville, many different access points. Um, canoeing and kayaking is a fantastic and very popular hobby here. And so we do an annual race each year. There are professional racers that come as well as, um, amateurs or just folks looking to get on the creek and just have some fun. We have all kinds of events and festivals throughout the year. Um, there's downtown party night right after thanksgiving in conjunction with Small Business Saturday, we have our annual Christmas parade. There's the strawberry festival in June all kinds of different opportunities. Um, the Taste of Montgomery County is also in downtown Crawfordsville every year. There's a sampling of all of our restaurants throughout the city and throughout the county that all come together and you get to taste this incredible menu um, of foods and drinks from local restaurants and yeah, there's, there's a phenomenal amount of things to experience and there is always something going on. We have a visitor's bureau that keeps everybody posted and up to date on what's happening on the weekends or um, even during the week, there's usually lunch on the plaza on Fridays in the summertime that our Main Street hosts where there's live music and food and just a great opportunity for folks to get outside and network a little bit over lunch, as well as a concert series throughout the year, I'm sorry, throughout the summer, on Friday nights, so those are can't miss experiences that you've got to have on your list, your first year and every year after that, living here in Crawfordsville.
