Hello, my name is Caroline Brinster. I'm originally from Portland, Oregon, where I grew up my entire life. I now, as of recently, live in Jasper, Indiana, Dubois County. For work, I am an attorney at Dentons Bingham Greenebaum. in their Jasper, Indiana office. I practice family law, litigation of breach of contract, business torts and other commercial disputes.
Tell us about MakeMyMove - how has MakeMyMove helped you?
Thanks to MakeMyMove, I was able to afford to move from Portland, Oregon all the way across the country to Jasper, Indiana with my family. The relocation grant that I received in the amount of $5,000, made this relocation completely financially possible for my family and I.
Where did you move and why is your new community a good fit?
Myself, my boyfriend and my dog moved to Jasper, Indiana Dubois County. This was a great choice for our family because my boyfriend is originally from Jasper, Indiana. So when we moved and relocated to Jasper, of course, we were welcomed by lots of family and lots of friends who are so excited to see us. To me, that was amazing. Um seeing that I'm from Portland and all of my family's over on the west coast, so it was important to me that wherever we ended up relocating um that it was a place where we could feel at home. So Jasper, although it's a small community, it really is a place that's thriving um and has a very vibrant economy, very low unemployment rates. Those are all things that we were looking at when we were determining where we wanted to move. Um and so of course, before we moved, we both had jobs lined up as well in our respective fields, which was very great. And then also we wanted a community while being smaller than Portland's, a community where um, people really took pride in the place that they lived in, um such as it being clean, um, you know, wanting to make the schools really nice, the public schools for um, the kids, you know, just really investing in the community itself. And we felt like Jasper was that place
What excited you about your community's incentive package?
What excited me the most about the relocation grant through Dubois Strong sponsored by MakeMyMove was the potential for the relocation for my family and I to move from Portland, Oregon to Jasper Indiana for it to be cost free to my family and myself. In this case, the relocation grant covered all of our relocation costs and expenses associated with our move things like gas, hotels. We had a three day trip, so there was a lot of gas um and hotel and meal costs. But this grant covered for us, which we were very fortunate for um as well as other costs. So while we, you know, sold off a lot of our possessions and belongings before moving to cut down on the stuff that we were hauling across the country. I mean we still had some things that we needed to bring. We had to rent a UHaul truck and we had to tow my car behind it and we had to drive a pickup truck. So uh we had a lot of costs and in the end though the relocation grant covered everything. And so we were really fortunate for this opportunity. Um and honestly, I think we still would have moved to Jasper, Indiana even without this grant, however, this grant just made it that much more affordable for our family
