Who are you and what is your experience of Magical Change training?

Trudy Hindmarsh: Hello, my name's Trudy Hindmarsh, and I didn't train IN Magical Change. I am the trainer FOR Magical Change. So - the whole concept of Magical Change has been in existence for about 10 years, since the very first child responded in an absolutely magical way to a conversation that I had with that child. For the last 10 years, I've been working on trying to find out which elements of that conversation were the most effective, and also developing extra strategies that we could use - so that it's now available to children for a whole range of problems that they might be facing. So, before Magical Change came about - I had been a child professional - working with children for nigh on 50 years now. So I was a mainstream teacher in education - both in the infant, the junior, and in the senior sections. I was a senior teacher in one of the largest primary schools in Cleveland, and I was also the SENDCO for that school for about 10 years. So my interest in children's problems stems from that time. I was also the principal of several multi-award winning stage schools in the northeast of England, and it was during this time, where I was having to deal with anxious children quite a lot, who were coming to us for the first time, and finding the newness of it all a bit overwhelming. And it was here that Magical Change first was born.

What can you say about the quality of the training that you had in the Magical Change method ?

Trudy Hindmarsh: Well, what can I say about the quality of the training? Well, I'm bound to say it's good, aren't I, if I'm the trainer, but don't rely on me. So I did my first online training about a year ago. And 100% of the people on that course said they were glad they'd done it. So I hope that speaks for itself. This time with my training, I've decided to offer two levels of it. So I will again offer the same kind of training as I did last time, which is to do some live training, which is also then recorded and the link sent to individuals, if they want to refer back to them, or if they miss the live training and want to make sure that they have not missed anything. With also some follow up, so that people who did the course can feel supported and can ask for advice later on. I'm also offering a quicker and cheaper option, which is to just do the training with no follow up, and that might suit people who are very experienced and have support networks within their job situation. So those two options are on the table this time. So who is this going to be suitable for? Well, it would be anybody who's working with children or who wants to work with children from a welfare point of view. So the obvious type of people would be those within teaching. So classroom teachers, SENDCO`s, classroom assistants, and ELSA workers within school. It would also be very useful for anybody who works within the child mental health system - within CAMHS or within private organizations. So on my first course, I had several people who were working with NLP techniques with children as child counselors. It would also be useful for anybody who is wanting to have a change of course within their career and to start to work with children - to give them some kind of a better understanding. I also think it would be brilliant for foster children, for cared for children too. Nobody needs it more than they do. And I've seen such miraculous, wonderful changes in children that that would be a great goal of mine if we could extend it to children with those kinds of backgrounds. The best thing for you to do is to maybe go to my website, which is www.magicalchange.co.uk. On there, you'll find an awful lot of testimonials, grouped according to the type of people who are making the comments. So there are some of the young people themselves, there are their parents, there are school people, who are based in school projects that I've taken part in. There are expert opinions from psychologists, - so there's a whole range on there for you to look at. And the remarkable thing, I think, and I feel very grateful and humble about is that if I can get the child to take the challenge, then I have never had a failure yet. And that seems like a bold claim. So I've had over 150 children that I personally have worked with. and my practitioners have worked with above and beyond that, and nobody has yet reported to me that they have attempted this method, and they've had no success whatsoever. So sometimes that change can be absolutely magical. It can happen almost within a week. For others, it's a steady process. It depends on the child or young person, and it also depends on what their problem is and how deep rooted that is, obviously.

What changes did you see in any children or young people that you have worked with?

Trudy Hindmarsh: Well, the changes that I've seen in children have been remarkable - sometimes almost instantaneous, sometimes more gradual. But always an improvement and one that parents have been really happy to see. Apart from the range of problems, which has gone from anxiety-based issues to anger, to school reluctance to, self harm. I've had children with eating problems, - a whole range of things. In fact, I've learned - and I say this to my practitioners very often - I've learned to trust the process. So there are times when I've felt I don't know enough about this problem. But the interesting thing is that you actually, with this process, don't need to understand the problem. You just need to meet the child where they are, within their feelings about the problem that they have, and support them. And that's why I'm calling it Magical Change, Emotional Support for Children - because I think that's the biggest element of it - that you are somebody who is non-judgmental. You're not part of the disciplinary process. You're there for the child to be able to confide in, to be able to share their success with. There is a whole age range - and I've been blessed that my experience has been (from a working point of view) from infants right up to adult teaching. And so I've been able to feel more comfortable perhaps, than others might be, at trying the techniques with different age groups - because I feel comfortable with them. But I now know, because of that, that they will work with the whole age range. So - fairly recently, I've actually worked with adults as well, successfully on all occasions. So - I think it's, been really a life changing experience for me. It never ceases to amaze me when a child turns themselves around and becomes happier. And it always humbles me and I feel blessed to be part of that. So I hope that there are people, listening to this video, who would also like to enjoy that feeling. I'm sure there are. And I therefore would look forward to meeting you on my online training. Thank you.
