Speaker: Alan Feder, Agent, Mad City Dream Homes
As a successful independent agent, why did you decide to join a team?
Alan Feder: I decided to join a team, really for two reasons. The first reason was due to wearing many hats on any given day as an independent agent was really stretching me thin. I felt like I was constantly being pulled in different directions, and that makes it really hard to focus on your business and focus on doing the things that you do well and bringing in new business. The second reason was due to more of a sense of belonging. I think as an independent agent, you can feel pretty lonely sometimes, even when you're part of a larger brokerage. It's just really difficult to connect to people that are in your industry or whatever it is that you're looking to do on a team, while you're still working as an independent agent, your culture is similar, you are giving back to the community together, you're sharing ideas together. It really is important was important to me. And so I was really glad to make the move to a team for those two reasons, and it's worked out really well.
Why did you choose the Mad City Dream Homes team?
Alan Feder: I joined the Mad City Dream Homes Team really for one major reason and that was the culture. And there's a lot of other things that fall under culture that the team does, but that word really kind of encompasses all of it. And if I had to pick a few things to identify, I would say that it's the team camaraderie, the sense of belonging, the giving back to the community, the working together. I feel that the agents on our team do a great job of collaborating when we need to. We cover for each other. We all have similar outlooks towards the community, at least in terms of making sure that we give back. And that we really try to exemplify those same things when we're in our transactions with other agents, always assuming the best of the other person and trying to come to a win- win-win outcome for everybody: for our clients, for the other agents, and for ourselves. So, those are things that are really hard to recreate. And so I think Dan has done an amazing job of creating a culture on the Mad City Dream Homes team that is second to none.
How has your business changed since joining the team?
Alan Feder: My business has changed in several ways since joining Mad City Dream Homes. Probably the most obvious way that has changed is that I am able to focus on my clients, my current clients, my past clients, and networking more, and less focus on the minutia and little tasks that are involved in running your own business entirely on your own. And so that has shown in the numbers, and it sounds cliche, but I am truly having my best year yet in real estate and I truly believe that it's because of joining Mad City Dream Homes, and it's given me the ability to really focus and stay in touch with people and reach out to people that I might not have otherwise. So those are definitely all the positive ways that my business has changed.
How has the team helped you personally and professionally?
Alan Feder: This is an interesting question, because I feel as though my business really overlaps a lot in my personal and professional worlds. A lot of my clients tend to become friends of mine, or we get to know each other on a very personal level. And so, Mad City Dream Homes has helped me to enhance those relationships even more. And things like focusing on writing handwritten notes to people, whether it's just to say thank you or to wish them well. It's that added touch that has really made a difference for me. And we focus on connecting with people, we focus on giving back to people, whether it's in a time of need or again, just to say hello, wish them a happy home anniversary or birthday, whatever it might be. But Mad City Dream Homes has really allowed me to focus on those connections and that's how our business plan works. We focus on those personal connections with people to stay in touch, and we hope that they will help us grow as well.
What advice do you have for anyone thinking of making a change?
Alan Feder: For anyone that's thinking of making a change, I would say that you should strongly consider joining a team that fits with your personality, that fits with your beliefs, and your culture. I do believe that working together on a team is better for everyone in the end. I think there are some folks that are geared towards that independence of building their own business and more power to you, but
Alan Feder: I think if you're thinking of changing brokerages or you're thinking of doing something different in your business, I highly, highly recommend that you consider the team environment for yourself. Obviously I believe in our team culture, Mad City Dream Homes, and yeah, you should definitely check us out, and have a conversation with myself, with Dan, or Ann, and then make a decision from there. But yeah, I would definitely tell folks that, look around and see what's the best fit for you.
We're always looking to hire people who share our commitment to community, relationships, and real estate.
