Cynthia Uchendu: Hey everyone, my name is Cynthia Uchendu and I am the owner of c.styled which is a hair business. I do protective styles. So I do braids, twists, crochet and soft locks, and I recently just ventured out into bridal hair, so it's exciting. I've been doing hair for myself for at least 10 years, it's been a long time. I used to give myself relaxers, brown girls, you know, the risk of giving your own self relaxer. Okay, I'm going to share a funny story now, back then it wasn't funny, it was definitely traumatic. I gave myself a relaxer one time and then the next day I bleached and dyed my hair, asked me what I was doing, I don't know, y'all my hair fell out, my hair fell out. And so for other people, how long I've been doing hair for them, it's been maybe about three years or so, three or four years. So my family would always push me and always encourage me. Cynthia, you need to do, you know, register your hair business as a thing, like, you just need to register it, you need to start doing hair for other people. And so they are the reason I kind of just branched out into this way. I never saw myself being a hairstylist for other people. I'm a very DIY type of girl, so I like to create, I like to do crafty type things if I can do it myself, I'm gonna do it myself and save money Best believe I'm gonna do it myself, so that's just been the kind of person that I've always been. And so here was just another skill that thankfully I've been blessed with and I have the ability to do and so I'm based in the DC, Maryland, Virginia area. WHAT IS YOUR ORGANIZATION'S UNIQUE STORY, WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT IT?
Cynthia Uchendu: Doing hair for me is just another way of serving people. I love, love, love love serving. And so because I already love serving, this is just another avenue in which I can do that. And so if I can make you feel beautiful even more beautiful because you're already beautiful and enhancing what's already there, then why not? And so that's really the reason behind hair for me. That's the reason I do it. That's the reason why I'm becoming more passionate about it is because I just love to serve people. I just love to take burdens off of people. And so if you don't know how to do your hair and I have this gift, it brings me so much joy knowing that I can help to relieve this burden off of you by offering my services. And so that's the reason um that I do here and I hope to continue doing hair.
CAN YOU SPOTLIGHT THE TOP SERVICES AND PRODUCTS YOU OFFER LOCALLY?
Cynthia Uchendu: So if I had to choose top services that are offered, I would definitely say soft lock. Soft logs are up there. People love them. They love them. I don't know why they're cute, but people just love them. I get booked for soft locks, especially in the fall and winter seasons. I get booked for soft locks a lot.
WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS OR PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU?
Cynthia Uchendu: One of my personal philosophies and shout out to my mom because she put me on to this is that life is not that serious. Yeah, I said it, life is not that serious. Let that sink in for a minute. I feel like we take life so serious sometimes. And in some ways, yeah, we should. I mean you shouldn't just be going through life having no care, but y'all we really just have one life to live. And so if you have that in mind, just trying to live life to the fullest, live the life that God has called you to live and live it to the fullest, be the best that you can be and remember that life is not that serious.
