Speaker: Lamar
Please introduce yourself.
Lamar : My name is Lamar Lee Claiborne. I'm 40 years old and I live in Wilmington, North Carolina.
How was your experience applying for Medicaid in North Carolina?
Lamar : To be honest, my experience applying for Medicaid went rather smoothly. Although the waiting period was a long time for me to sign up. After that, the representative was very helpful in assisting me. And I actually got a Medicaid card in the mail under a month's time.
How has Medicaid made a difference to you and your family?
Lamar : Due to the fact that I'm single and none of my Children live with me. I was given family Medicaid something of that nature. It really had my mind boggled because I wasn't getting no type of show.
What challenges have you faced with Medicaid in North Carolina?
Lamar : Due to the fact that I'm single and none of my Children live with me. I was given some type of Medicaid that really, I'm still not sure what it was. Family Medicaid or something of that nature and the benefits from that was slim to none from my perspective.
Lamar : Due to the fact that I'm single and none of my Children live at my residence. I was given family Medicaid or something of that nature and I was unable to get all types of assistance to say the least from Medicaid. But on December 1st, all of that changed. And since then I've been able to get services for my mental health as well as dental assistance and that's just, just getting started. So um happy with applying for Medicaid and I know better things are to come.
