Speaker: Kathy Wang, Co-Founder, Press Club

What is one important personal reflection or lesson from 2025 that you want to share with other community pros?

Kathy Wang: You have to stay consistent, like your life depends on it. I started posting consistently on LinkedIn this year, starting on April 1st, 2025, and I posted consistently for six months, and that's how I grew my following from 8,000 to, 13,000. People always ask me, Kathy, how did you grow your following? How did you grow by 5,000 followers in the course of a couple months? And my answer is actually very simple. It's literally just consistency, like show up every single day. I don't have a some type of content calendar or schedule. I literally just posted whatever I felt like posting when I woke up that day. So you don't necessarily need to have a strategy or some type of calendar or tooling. You just need to show up every day and be consistent. That's my advice.

What is your take on what is next for us as community professionals in 2026?

Kathy Wang: I feel like a lot of people are scared about AI or freaked out about AI and what it has to do with the future of community building. But here's the thing, I honestly think this AI wave is very similar to the internet wave. With AI it's just a tool and specifically with AI you get out of it what you put into it. So I'll give you a very specific example. The way that I build community is through LinkedIn posts, right, by writing them. And one of the ways in which I use AI. is putting in a brain dump or an outline into ChatGPT and then getting the output and then posting it on LinkedIn. And I noticed that when I put in half-baked thoughts or things that aren't very well articulated, ChatGPT will return AI slop. But on the other hand, if I put in an outline that I'm fairly confident in, and I have put thought into the structure of it, ChatGPT produces stellar results, right? And that's how I do my writing process these days. And just, just FYI writing is a very personal thing for me. I'm very careful about not putting out AI slop. We don't need any more of that in the world. And I'm very careful, careful about having it right in my voice and tone. And so for all the community builders out there, I don't think AI is something to be scared of, you just need to learn how to work with it.
