The things that you're going to learn about in this class are going to be how to identify the sources and the places where we're going to find criminal law. Um The different types of laws you can be able to distinguish between uh a property crime and a crime against the public or against a person. You are going to be able to find defenses to a crime. So the insanity defense, um if someone's constitutional rights are violated, how that is a defense to a crime, um and to also understand some of the police investigation that is done and also the investigation that paralegals and lawyers do to help defend clients or prosecute them, depending on which way you go. My tip for this course would be to make sure you reach out to me if you have any questions. Um You can always do so as soon as you feel like you don't understand the assignment and that will save you a lot of time um to get clarification. So you don't go down the wrong path. And another thing that I I would recommend is to read the US Constitution if you get the chance. Um or at least the 4th and 5th amendments which um are pretty helpful in this area of law. Um It's not an easy fast read but it, it's not too long. So, um that's a recommendation that is something that I think will be helpful to you as well. Criminal law is actually one of my favorite topics and one of my favorite things to teach. Um because the law is very interesting in this area and of course, what you do has a huge impact on people's lives. So, uh there's a lot to explore in this class and I think it's really going to be exciting.
