Teresa Almendariz: Hello, my name is Teresa Almendariz and I'm a registered nurse through the Welcome Baby program at Maternal Child Health Access. I wanted to share a success story that we as nurses encounter on a daily basis. Just by a simply thank you from the client. Just being grateful for our program. You know, that's a success story. As you know, a lot of these clients need a lot of education, they need a lot of assistance whether it be with housing, applying to CalFresh, breastfeeding, which is a huge, huge educating them on breastfeeding. A lot of moms want to breastfeed, but they just don't know if they're doing the correct thing positioning. Very grateful. My encounter with a client recently, it's a new mom. She reached out to me, I would say 2 to 3 weeks after she delivered, presenting certain symptoms. I immediately advised her to make an appointment to be seen as soon as possible. She reached out to me that the soonest that she could be seen was like in two weeks. I advised the mom to call the clinic again, and tell them she spoke to a nurse and that she needed to be seen right away to receive treatment. Later on the day, the client did reach out to me. She stated that she did receive an appointment the following day early in the morning. And after her visit that day that she had her visit, the client texted me, she said that they had placed her on antibiotics. So I'm very grateful that the client reached out to me. If she wouldn't have received her treatment, things could escalate and become worse for the client. So the client was an advocate for herself, she reached out to me and I think that's a reassurance to the these clients that are in our Welcome Baby program because they feel like, oh, let me call the nurse and see what she advises me. So, I'm very grateful. I always offer my number and I'm always, I make it available to them should they have any questions. Whether it be, my baby's cord fell off, I'm scared, what should I do? And it's just, that's a normal thing that that happens to a baby and, just reassure these clients. So, very grateful for the Welcome Baby program. Very grateful that I'm part of this program because I'm out here, educating these moms and just sometimes just being an ear to these clients is a huge, huge impact on them. Thank you.
