Crystal : The work that I've done with Cobi has truly. Saved my life and changed my life.
What was happening in your life that led you to seek somatic therapy? What made you decide it was time to try something different?
Crystal : I started working with Cobi about 1 year and a half years ago. I was working with a therapist in Bellevue working on EMDR and just a little bit of background, about 5 years ago, my mother passed away and it left me very confused about her, my family that I grew up with. I'm an adopted kid and have 3 older brothers and it was, it was a very unsafe place where I lived with this family. And at the time my mom passed away, it was like a dam broke and everything that I had. Tried to rationalize or, or justify, just came forward full force. So, as a result of working with the therapist in Bellevue, she had recommended that I work with Cobi as well. And a few years ago, I had read a book called The Body Keeps Score and I, I, I felt that, that book resonated with me. I knew that I had a lot of stored trauma in my body and my life was, it, it felt like I just lived in hypervigilance of all of my surroundings and my family. And, so, basically stuck in survival mode for 62 years. And I, I felt I needed a relief. My body needed a relief at that time. There was just so much confusion going on. And, I was concerned about the effects that it could have on my body, and feeling like I, I could have a stroke or a heart attack or my body's gonna be affected in some way. So, I thought it was worth a try and as these two therapists worked together, yeah, I ended up with Cobi and I will tell you more on the next clip.
How has working with Cobi using Transforming Touch changed the way you experience yourself, your relationships, or your daily life?
Crystal : The work that I've done with Cobi has truly. Saved my life and changed my life. I no longer live in survival mode and, and anticipate, all the different strategies I'm gonna go through when I need to be around family members. And actually, there are times that I, I choose not to participate with family members. I, I, I can't change how they are, but I can change, this process has helped me. Change, the, to give me choices and being around people who support my, my healing and not to feel obligated out of family commitment to be around people who have continually, belittled me or, or harmed me. So, it's been great in the sense that I have, I have choice. It, it's been liberating, And I feel present in my body, which I have, which I've never experienced. That, that presence, it's, it's like a, a new awakening for me. And, and truly, That, I'm gonna start crying. This work has, has truly helped me in, in so many ways.
If someone was considering somatic therapy but wasn't sure if it was right for them, what would you want them to know?
Crystal : I would say if you're considering working with Cobi and doing this type of therapy, I would say don't hesitate. She has been an ally and the, the work works. And there's been a lot of laughter and a lot of crying, but, a lot of healing. So, it's been the most significant healing that I've experienced, so. All right, gonna wrap it up here. Bye.
