Speaker: Christopher Kan, Sampling Human

Please introduce yourself and share one of the most valuable things you took from your education at KGI.

Christopher Kan: Hi, my name is Christopher Can. I'm a KGI alum. And one of the most valuable things that I learned while I was there was how applicable my scientific training was to the world of business. And I really appreciated professors taking the time to help walk us through the analogous processes in business that were similar to the scientific method and how we can apply the same level of rigor and intellect to business problems.

How has your experience at KGI helped your career?

Christopher Kan: One of the things that's made the most difference for me. having graduated from KGI is just how kind and helpful the network is. The nice thing about having done business training at a institute that's solely focused on, on life sciences is that almost 100% of the alumni are in my applicable field, they all understand the sort of issues that I have, and they're more than willing to share their experience and, and provide support when you ask. And that's been really transformative for me and has really helped me compete in this business world compared to some of my colleagues who went to more general programs.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

Christopher Kan: I think for folks who are thinking about going to KGI, one of the things that I would suggest they think about is just how important it is to have a network that's actually applicable to the work that you want to do. So, if you want to be in the life sciences and you want to help save people's lives and improve their health and give them extra birthday with their grandkids, you wanna be in a community that also shares the same goals, but also has the skills to help you and the experience and KGI offers that in spades, whether it be the faculty who all have an interdisciplinary experience or alumni who, most of which, are have both scientific training and business training. So the value of that community, I think, it's sometimes a little bit hard to convey, but it is really important, you know, if you're going to invest time in a degree or certificate or training, you should pick somewhere that actually is gonna help you help to get where you wanna go. And I think the great thing about KGI, that's not just a nice name. It's actually very functionally day to day... I find it very useful.
