Speaker: Martin Saffery, Just a guy
What was life like before you joined Kettlebell Transformation?
Martin Saffery: So, what was life like before KT, uh, ate too much? Didn't work out with a, um, with a, with a purpose. Um, I love how it's structured. Uh, you get support all along the way. Um, but yeah, I didn't have structure or, or real purpose in my, my daily activities is something that KT gave me. I know. It sounds strange but it, it enhances, uh, almost every aspect of your life. Uh, or that's how, that's how it did for me and, uh, some of the men that I, that I surround myself with in the KT program.
What were the stats around your weight & health prior to joining KT?
Martin Saffery: OK, this is the one that's kind of uncomfortable to talk about, uh for all of us really? Um Yeah, I was heavy. I was heavy, so I'm 6 ft one. I was the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I was 247 pounds at my heaviest point when I decided, uh FF I'm, I'm done like I'm done playing, I'm done, I'm not messing around. Uh I need, I need something that, that helps me put the blinders on and kind of gives me a, a path, a direction to move and um support along that, along that path. Um, cholesterol was up, weight was up, confidence was down. Um which is a big deal, you know how you see yourself, how you look at yourself, how you view yourself in the mirror, um through your kids' eyes, your kids skin on you and they start jiggling your belly and make, oh dad, you're so fluffy. I was over it. I was over it. Uh, and I, I was a guy that was in incredible shape. Um, but COVID did me in uh that's the excuse I'm gonna use. Um, but it's just an excuse at the end of the day it was my fault. I didn't move enough and I, not nearly, I didn't move. Not nearly enough and I ate too much. Um, so not good.
What were your most pressing concerns surrounding your health prior to joining KT?
Martin Saffery: Most pressing health issues. So diabetes runs in my family. Um heart disease, diabetes, all those, all those diseases that are, you know, for the most part avoidable. Uh So that was my health concern. Uh I wanted to be around for my Children. Uh I saw my, my grandfather in the eighties. Uh, he was a double amputee amputee because of because he was a diabetic. Uh he died on the diocese mai dialysis machine. Uh also, so I, I remember that vividly and that it's kind of in my brain all the time like, you know, you gotta move, eat less, work out, more, work out with intensity and ferocity. Uh like there's no tomorrow. So diabetes. That was a big one for me.
When making the decision to join KT, what were you most concerned about?
Martin Saffery: Uh I was most concerned about executing the movements with precision so I can scale the weight so I can get stronger. Uh uh I just, I just knew, I just knew just by the way, grant yes, delivered, you know, the, the package of, of how everything is structured. I knew it would work. I just knew it would work because, because I know my personality, if I have a good workout system, um I will keep myself motivated and nutrition inside. Um It, it, I just knew it would work. I don't, I don't know, my biggest concern was just executing the movements with precision, you know, the swing, the get up, um one hand to hand and all that stuff. So I, that's, that's my only concern, bro. Really? That's really the only concern. If you do it with precision and purpose, you can more easily scale uh to a higher weight if that's your goal or volume, whatever your goal is, that's, that was my biggest concern.
What made you take the next step anyway despite the concerns you had?
Martin Saffery: Yeah. Once I knew once I kind of figured out that Grant was real, let's be honest, there's a bunch of snake oil kind of people out there selling you a bunch of nonsense that just may work short term. I'm looking for a long term goal, a long term process that can carry me for decades. Once I figure that out, Grant could not take my money fast enough. He, I was, I was like, all right here. Take the money. All right. When, when do I start? When can you let me talk to the coach? I wanna, I wanna get going. Let's, let's get this moving. I had no real concerns honestly. Um, just getting started and getting, getting some reps in uh some of these movements, you know, they're, they're, they're not difficult, but you can really mess yourself up if you, if you don't know what you're doing. And I, and I don't want, and I don't wanna hurt myself. So, ok.
What's life like now after implementing the KT System?
Martin Saffery: What's life like now? Yeah. Th this, this, you can't really summarize in just a few minutes. Uh, what life is like now, uh, because I started off it, uh, a, uh, rotund 247. Um, people cons constantly come up to me that I've seen before and say, hey, oh, wow. II I know she a lot of you look good. Wow, what's going on? Um, life now is more fulfilling. Uh, you know, you, you, at least in my case I look, I look at everything through different lens now. Um, if I do something, how will affect my workouts? If I hurt myself, how will this affect my workouts if I eat this? Oh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna eat either gain weight or, or, or, um, it's gonna hurt, you know, some aspect of my workout. Uh, it's changed almost everything in my life. My Children are starting to get into working with kettlebells. Um, the two of my girls, I have them doing farmers carries and they're just using, you know, 99 pound kettlebell. So, not much at all really? So, but they carried up and down the driveway when I'm doing my farmers carries uh if they're awake or you know up and about they come out there and do farmers carries with me. So, you know, as a father that is um being able to pass something on to your Children that, that will enhance their life for their entire life, that is, that's how it's enhanced it. And if you're a father, if you're a parent, uh you understand that and, and it enhances every aspect of your life. Your, your, your wife, look at you different differently. Your, you know, your, everybody, my siblings, friends, cousins, even my smart ass uncle through a compliment my way and he doesn't compliment anybody. It, it's wonderful. It's freaking wonderful. Yeah.
