State the topic: Top Halloween Safety Tips For Your Pet - now talk through your top 5 tips.
Debbie Myers: Today, we're going to cover some top safety tips to keep your pet safe during Halloween and up first is candy, you just want to make sure that your candy, especially chocolate items are up and out of the way where pets can't reach them, especially as your trick or treaters are going home and any candy bowls that you have by the door, just make sure those are in a place that pets can't reach. And second, there's a lot of commotion associated with Halloween from the doorbell ring to trick or treaters in the house to owners potentially wearing strange costumes, which can be really stressful for animals. So just make sure to set them up in a calm space, consider unplugging the doorbell and maybe sitting outside to greet trick or treaters and pet costumes. We all love to dress our pets up in costumes, but they don't also enjoy the experience all the time either. So just make sure that you're wearing costumes that aren't too restrictive, especially around the chest and the collar area and that, that's a good fit and make sure to keep the times that animals are in those costumes to kind of a minimum to get your photo or pose and then make sure you never leave them unattended with those costumes on. And this is also a great time to make sure that you keep microchip and collar information up to date, especially if you've recently moved, there will be a lot of door opening and closing and you just wanna make sure that they slip, that they'll still be safe. And lastly Halloween decorations, make sure there's no small parts, wires or strings that pets can reach. Just make sure everything is nice and safely secured. Rabbits like to choose wires. Dogs like to choose small parts and cats will go with anything that has a string. So we just want to make sure that we keep everybody safe this holiday.
Closing Statement: In closing, remember that Halloween can be a fun and festive time, but it’s important to keep your pets' safety in mind.
