What has working in mental health care meant to you?

Veronica Harsh: Working in mental health care means to me, the opportunity and great privilege to work directly with individuals in supporting their journey to health. To help patients to identify specific goals, targeting well-being and improved functioning and to celebrate with them when they make progress and realize greater capacity to work, love, play or enjoy an improved quality of life. It means an opportunity to integrate a whole person centered care approach with wrap-around mental health services via CCBHC programming, and in addition to mental health care needs, we can help assess and direct any needed interventions for medical status, preventive care needs and healthy lifestyle management for our patients. It means an opportunity to provide potentially life-saving treatments by way of our MAT programming to people who are struggling with substance use disorders. It means working with like-minded individuals who care and want to support our population, our population who is often marginalized or subject to bias in the larger health care system. And it means, in my role as a Medical Director, the opportunity to support the development of programs, operations and clinical knowledge to sustain delivery of excellent care.
