Speaker: Collin Bohlke MA LPCC, Regional Therapist Lead
Collin Bohlke MA LPCC: Hello, my name is Colin Bohlke. I am a regional therapy lead and therapist with innovaTel. Today, I want to kind of talk to you about mindfulness and what it means to be mindful. So, mindfulness is the awareness that arises through paying attention, non judgmentally on purpose, to the present moment, and bringing your complete attention to the present experience from moment to moment.
Collin Bohlke MA LPCC: In terms of how mindfulness can benefit your mental health, it can reduce anxiety, it can reduce depression, it can help you understand yourself better, it can help you catch negative self talk or things that are happening in your mind that maybe you weren't paying attention to originally. And so that could be a good practice. We can do it every day without anybody knowing. Things like eating more slowly, noticing, acting as if you've never had that chocolate chip cookie before in your life and noticing — Can I taste the sugar in it? Can I taste the flour? Can I taste the chocolate chips? That's a simple mindfulness exercise, because it's keeping you in that present moment. So that could be just a short example of how you can practice mindfulness in your every day. As well as talk to people, share your story, share your tips on what can help you with mindfulness or ask someone, ask someone that you look up to, ask someone that you want to make part of your life and so I hope this helps. Thank you.
