What are the benefits of Pranayama?
Apoorva Gupta Jalan: So Pranayama basically means prana plus ayama So an expansion of the prana within us. So what is prana? Prana is the fundamental life force energy, something that is special that is continuously renewing itself, something that actually keeps us alive. And therefore the quality of prana, the ability of prana to flow effortlessly without obstructions within us is very important for our well being. The easiest way to experience our prana is through the breath. So in a practice, we really work with the breath to move towards the experience of Pranayama. When prana is flowing well, when it is functioning well, when the quality of prana is good, then we have good sleep, good digestion, clarity in the mind, a sense of connection with joy, a sense of ease and a sense of connection to a deeper intelligence within us that helps us guide our life. The practice of prana really helps to quieten the noise in the mind, all those waves. And when the mind is a little more settled, just like say a pool of water. When the waves are settled, it's possible to see more clearly. It's possible to not only see deeper but also get a clearer understanding of what you're looking at. So therefore, there is a lot more clarity in life. So pranayama is a practice that really supports our life. And there is no point to doing any of these practices of yoga if it doesn't support the very fundamental way we are living our lives. So I would highly recommend that you come and explore Pranayama for yourself and experience it as you do it on a regular basis. The quality of your being starts to change.
